definitely sounds like they need more complaints to the D.O.J. You fail to see that this has happened to numerous unsuspecting people and when it was brought up, they were told they could go somewhere else when they informed the shop that the max they were allowed to charge was $35.

PPT Transfer Fee Overcharge

Yup, penny wise & dollar foolish.I had this happen as well. For $50 illegal profit a shop lost thousands of dollars of potential future business from a long term proven customer and his friend who was getting really in to guns and already purchased a few from shop and his coworkers that work in very good jobs in the entertainment industry.
I am loathe to inform to LE so I just voted with my wallet.
Sorta reminds me of a relative. She had a bad seal around her shower that allowed water to leak into the wall & the electrical panel on the bottom floor. I suggested she repair it many times; it was only a couple hundred dollars. Over several years, the water rotted the wood framing & the wall and shorted out the electrical panel. Then she HAD to repair it - $21,000.00.Comment

It was meant to be a sarcastic remark about that shop. It is real hard to understand how they are still in business in the first place much less not being shut down. Even tacticrap (formerly Rangemaster of Santa Maria) is starting to get the picture, but I won't hold my breath.definitely sounds like they need more complaints to the D.O.J. The shop was selected by the seller who'd apparently used them before. I don't know if he was aware that the PPT fee was illegally inflated or not, but I was trying to make the whole situation as painless as possible for the seller. It was meant to be a sarcastic remark about that shop. "Most people understand that guns deter criminals. If a killer were stalking your family, would you feel safer putting a sign out front announcing, "This Home Is a Gun-Free Zone"? But that is what the Westroads Mall did" (in Omaha, Neb).

I went round and round with them about their $50 for a PPT and the owner even got involved. He claimed it was perfectly legal and they had "cleared it" with their DOJ rep. The employee that initially helped us went as far as to print out the FAQ regarding PPT and hand it to me. I pointed out to him that it was indeed right there in clear language that a PPT could only be $35 and no more. He then pointed to the the next paragraph where it said something else in regards to non-inperson transfers. Because of that experience I will never buy anything from them again and I will recommend to all of friends and acquaintances to do the same. I can't wait to see how this goes.I called up the FAQ on the Attorney General's website on my phone. Told the guy it says right here with a reference to the actual legal code on what they're allowed to charge.
The response was: "It's $50. If you want to go somewhere else you can."

Pretty much all great advice and conversation here.
Pickup you firearm, let them know you are reporting them, then actually do that. They have obviously been doing this for a long time and I'm guessing rarely get called on it. People just wanting that firearm they see in the case and don't know or aren't willing to call them out.
Thanks for letting every one know, hopefully more duped customers will come out and join the fight. If a tree falls in the woods and no one is around to hear it, does a bear still s**t there?Comment
