definitely sounds like they need more complaints to the D.O.J. You fail to see that this has happened to numerous unsuspecting people and when it was brought up, they were told they could go somewhere else when they informed the shop that the max they were allowed to charge was $35.

I commented that I thought the max they were allowed to charge was $35. The response was that we could go somewhere else, but anyone else would charge the same. I looked up the FAQ on the Cal AG's website and there in black and white: $25 for DROS and $10 for fee.

Again the response was we could go somewhere else.

Thing is, just an hour earlier I'd been at another FFL about 35 minutes away to get a lower out of jail and posted on the wall was: "$35 for PPT."

I didn't want to take up the seller's time driving around to another FFL, but this isn't sitting well with me.

Has anyone had experience reporting stuff like that to the Attorney General's office? I paid with a credit card. Has anyone been successful getting a partial charge back on things like this? I want to pay what I'm legally required to, and I'm probably getting a little too worked P over $15, but this is ticking me off.

I am loathe to inform to LE so I just voted with my wallet.
Yup, penny wise & dollar foolish.

Sorta reminds me of a relative. She had a bad seal around her shower that allowed water to leak into the wall & the electrical panel on the bottom floor. I suggested she repair it many times; it was only a couple hundred dollars. Over several years, the water rotted the wood framing & the wall and shorted out the electrical panel. Then she HAD to repair it - $21,000.00.

It was meant to be a sarcastic remark about that shop. It is real hard to understand how they are still in business in the first place much less not being shut down. Even tacticrap (formerly Rangemaster of Santa Maria) is starting to get the picture, but I won't hold my breath.

The shop was selected by the seller who'd apparently used them before. I don't know if he was aware that the PPT fee was illegally inflated or not, but I was trying to make the whole situation as painless as possible for the seller.

I had a place in Santa Rosa try to charge the "storage fee" and the seller and I(the buyer) did complain to DOJ and got a refund from the store when I picked up the gun. I believe DOJ has a hotline for this.

No that was PPT me showing up there with the other person. I clarified that point with them and they did the same with their manager.

I went round and round with them about their $50 for a PPT and the owner even got involved. He claimed it was perfectly legal and they had "cleared it" with their DOJ rep. The employee that initially helped us went as far as to print out the FAQ regarding PPT and hand it to me. I pointed out to him that it was indeed right there in clear language that a PPT could only be $35 and no more. He then pointed to the the next paragraph where it said something else in regards to non-inperson transfers. Because of that experience I will never buy anything from them again and I will recommend to all of friends and acquaintances to do the same. I can't wait to see how this goes.

Pretty much all great advice and conversation here.

Pickup you firearm, let them know you are reporting them, then actually do that. They have obviously been doing this for a long time and I'm guessing rarely get called on it. People just wanting that firearm they see in the case and don't know or aren't willing to call them out.

Thanks for letting every one know, hopefully more duped customers will come out and join the fight.

Should have offered to call DOJ while in the store to help clear things up.
