Sounds like you got a bargain on those smiles. It reminds me of the time during the height of .22 scarcity that I gave 100 rounds of CCI to a father and son who had shown up at the range and only shot for 20 minutes before they ran out of ammo.

The gun community is pretty generous I've found. When I've had problems in the past several calgunners have offered to mail me free repair parts. So I'm happy to pass along such generosity in our sport.

It's fun to give those smiles. I had an Air Force reserve customer ask me if I could take his 13ish year old cousin from England to shoot a machine gun. She had so much fun and was the envy of the kids when she got back. Cost me about $40 in ammo and range time.

I took my 1919 out to the desert one time while some military guys were training clients from the company they owned. There were a few locals shooting too. As soon as I had it all ready and let out a few bursts everyone stopped shooting and came over. The military guys were in full head to toe gear and as they were talking to me I saw they had selectfire Noveske's strapped around them. They asked me to take the gun apart for them. They were looking at all the parts and talking about how it compared to the M240's they carried in the M.E. I let them fire a few bursts while the other locals took video. The guys had smiles just like kids and they were in their 30's and used to machine guns.

Wow, I missed this the first time. Are you serious? If so, I can't wait until you realize that not everyone gets money given to them to buy $5000 guns. Some of us actually earn our own money to buy +$5000 guns. Hell, I'll go further and say that the $50 gun that I bought with money I actually earned is worth a hell of a lot more to me than the $5000 POS that you didn't earn.

I didn't let "a guy" it was 5 guys. It was right after i noticed that their faces was pressing into the stock that I felt very uncomfortable. I declined to shoot their cheaps gun because i want them to go away. Nothing snotty about that..

You sound snotty because you refer to your gun as "highly modified" and to their guns as "cheap" and you continued to do so while trying to defend yourself as being snotty.

With that said, I usually let people shoot my guns if they show interest in them. They usually ask me what the gun is or how do I like it, then I offer. They offer to let me shoot their guns too, but I usually politely decline. I figure there's no need to test out guns, I just buy what I like, haha

Lol, if u take that comment seriously, u must be really really old. Someone said the exact same thing to me when I told him his "insert gun name here" are really cheap.

If you're getting the same type of response from multiple people, probably a safe bet the issue is with you.

moral of the story is to pay it forward. we are most than just a group that shoots, we are an oppressed people in this state and the only way out is through popularity of the sport.

I'll let people I'm comfortable with shoot my firearms. It depends on what I'm doing as well. Sometimes I'm focused on new gear or zeroing. I've never done it expecting something in return. I don't live life comparing myself or property to the rest of the world, YMMV.

I let people with "cheap" guns shoot what I have. If you think a Daniel Defense AR is top tier, you have a lot of learning to do. Don't let your ego hit ya where the good lord split ya!

I guess it is just a difference in mindset. Your guns do not interest me. They also cost very little in comparison to the ones I collect.

The value of your guns would not even be a factor in me offering to let you shoot one of my guns. (Which I bought with money I earned myself.)

If I have a gun that interests you and you expressed appreciation for it. I'd offer to let you shoot it. Keep in mind many of us long time shooters/collectors have guns you can't rent and may cost more than you can afford. But we'll let you shoot it for free.

Guy I knew had a friend in WW2 that went to a stateside base. There was a P17 30-06 Enfield rifle and a ammo can full of ammo for it. He asked if he could shoot it and was told all he wanted. He shot the whole can and his shoulder was totally bruised and wrecked the next day.

I've many times let strangers shoot my firearms if they asked. While they weren't exactly strangers I was helping teach a pistol class a couple weeks ago and there were a few people wanting to shoot up their ammo in the 1911 the school owner had for them to use. I wasn't using it at that exact moment so I unholstered my Les Baer Concept 2 and set it on the bench told the waiting people to have at it. Most of what we all have here are tools not heirlooms.

So I try to let strangers shoot them whenever the opportunity arises.
