What I want to know is what Eotech is going to do with all those returned units?

Are they going to be re-sold as used at a discounted price or destroyed?

I was about to pull the trigger on one then this whole recall fiasco happened and made me starting looking at Aimpoint again. But if I can get a perfectly good Eotech at a big enough discount used I wouldn't mind testing one out.

I am not trying to convince anybody to keep or return their hardware. It was just thinking on loud. I am on the same boat as everybody else. As I stated earlier, I don't want to get disappointed again!

I work in the defense space and have heard through the grapevine that DoD has changed their testing to specifically include 'thermal drift' for all future optic acquisitions. Remember that these sights were tested by USSOCCOM for years and it was the FBI who first made the issue public. It's a black eye for USSOCCOM as well.

When I received my approval, I had asked about a RMA and they replied one was not needed and to just print out the entire email chain and include it with the return.

I have a window open just waiting to click "submit order" for an Aimpoint but am hesitant to commit to buying it and returning the EOtech until someone confirms they've received an actual refund check. What to do, what to do...

In this video the EOTech exec says it's only off 5MOA max but the law suit revealed that it can be "up to 20MOA off and non-recoverable" so when it warms up or cools off it's still going to be 20MOA off, it doesn't fix itself once it's off center.

And it's been confirmed that the zero drifts with temperature changes, not just at the extremes. Hopefully those of you saying this doesn't effect you are paying attention.

I believe this is very true. I never really noticed too many issues with zero drift when I lived in CA. However, since I've moved and now have hot/humid summers and below freezing winter temps, I've found myself having to re-zero late winter/early spring the past few years. I didn't think much of it as my groups at 100 yards were only off by an inch or two iirc. If I was just ringing steel, I may have never noticed, but when I shoot at paper it drives me crazy to be consistently off by that much.

FWIW, this doesn't mean that DoD will retest all their approved optics nor will they make the results public. It is up to the manufacturers to release their testing data to the consumer market, if they wish to do so.
As an example, the new ELCAN holosight, that debuted at SHOT, makes specific mention of their thermal drift testing.

To be more specific, he's talking about the thermal drift problem that still exists. The 20MOA issue dealt with cold weather intrusion causing dot distortion and was fixed in 2008.

I could never get mine to hold a zero. It was off every session.

That's weird. I used to take mine on and off and it would always be zeroed. I only sent mine in because I wanted something different

I owned two I bought used here and I could not even ZERO it led alone keep the ZERO.

I was so happy to hear about the recall. What a shame!

You live in San Diego where the temperature doesn't change much. I live up north where it can drop below 20f and get over 115f.
