I try not to go to shooting ranges for just this reason. I'd prefer to go to BLM land with the few people I trust. I take my kids shooting and I don't trust idiots so it is worth the extra drive IMO!

But seriously yeah noob with ar painted me as he put it away. He was politely reminded of safety.

Yah, im at the point in my own house that i dont sweep myself even if i know i just tore the gun down and there is 0% of a round in the chamber. Cant be too cautious, heard too many stories of people dry firing a live round into their leg.

^^^This. I've never been to a public range where some idiot didn't get yelled at over the intercom by the RSO. Fiddling with weapons during cease fires. Sweeping everyone while moving firearms. I've had several people set their targets on the other side of me and shoot across my line. No more public ranges for me.

I seen some things... and some stuff...

                        Seriously though, I say something.

I am a polite guy and it typically goes over okay.

Although I about clocked a guy that a friend brought to the range because he kept flagging us with a finger on the trigger. I had to tell him multiple times.

On the third time I told him that if he cannot keep it together, he is not shooting anymore. He asked how I was going to stop him. I told him that he would have to put that one together himself.

Most of my shooting these days is at competitions like IDPA, USPSA and 3 gun, so I don't have those problems much anymore.

I have been to Oroville when people started walking down range while people were shooting. We all stopped and they didn't get it. Another guy there explained it to them.

I only shoot shotgun at Oroville these days. And when I do, I get as far away from other people as I can. I also keep my eyes open.

Its been awhile since I was at the Folsom range, but bad stuff happened every time I went.

One time the very old RO would drift off to sleep in the glass office only to startle awake. During a cease fire, he falls off to sleep. A couple of minutes after calling the cease fire, he pops awake to call and end to cease fire and to begin fire. He did not notice a couple of guys in panic mode running flat out back from the 100 yd range once he called the range hot.

2nd time, on the pistol line, it was cease fire. I look from my chair behind the yellow line to see a guy holding and aiming a hand gun in my direction while instructing his wife. Pissed, I yelled to drop the gun. His response in a east European accent was its not loaded. My response was I don't care, your pointing a gun in my direction. I see it again, my gun won't be unloaded. All of this just about in front of the RO office window with the RO sitting in his chair. Crazy.
The only thing that is worse than an idiot, is someone who argues with one.

Some friends and I went to Oak Tree a couple of years ago. I was shooting my Beowulf on the rifle side and a guy sets up next to me. He had an issue with the sound and walked over with his loaded rifle to to the RO. He swept everyone to my left including the RO. He was asked to leave, not so much for the sweeping but for his obnoxious behavior towards the RO. About an hour later we were on the pistol side. I set up on the far left and gave a heads up to the people on my right.....I was shooting my DE .50. I fired 1 shot and the lady to my right jumped back and swept a crowded area. No regard to what she had in her hand. She just kept pointing her revolver towards me like it was her index finger. RO was on it within seconds. She was gone along with her boyfriend.

I only shoot at Metcalf (outdoor) and Reed's (indoor), both do an excellent job in safety (especially Metcalf).

BLM on the other hand is the Wild Freaking West. Last time out up near Arnold was shooting the AR at 100yrds. Guy drove his jeep to the end of the backstop WHILE I WAS SHOOTING. Just caught it out of the corner of my eye.

I stopped and yelled "WTF". He said "you were shooting straight I'm not worried". After he unpacked and had his 2yr old and 4yr old daughter running around without ear protection, I just left.

I'll take a range any day over BLM. My experience has been sketchy with no RO to supervise.
