Metcalf, Sunnyvale, and Los Altos all run pretty tight ships with active ROs that know what they're doing. I always have confidence at those ranges and have not had any incident that sticks out in my mind in the 15 years I've been shooting there.

Although last weekend at Metcalf I heard Gerry over the PA: "Shooter on Lane 2, you're shooting 12 feet high." LMAO.

I have not shot at any indoor range in the last 10 years because I have 24/7 access to a semi-private one. The last time I was at Target Masters though, about 4 years ago, I was watching the line while my friend was buying a handgun. I saw 3 serious safety violations in about 10 minutes, no RO anywhere in sight. **** that place.

I have seen some pretty stupid stuff take place at Burro Canyon. However I will say that when it happens someone usually says something. Often the RSO will haul his butt to the area and give a reprimand. There is one guy RSO who acts like his is a god, but all the others are pretty cool.

In the late 80s, a guy next to my bench at the 50 yrd line had an ND, the round struck the roof above my bench (my wife was with me also). The whole line shut down and the ROs tossed the guy out.

7 years ago at the 50 yrd line again, while my young son and I went to change targets during a cease fire, a guy started to fiddle with his bolt action rifle at the next bench to us, pointed downrange. We hit the ground while an RO ran up to him yelling. The idiot said he "was just lubing the bolt". Since then, it is now habit with me (and my son) to walk backwards towards the target stands for a dozen yards or more.

I once saw a guy try to staple his target on to the stand (7 yrd line) while the range was hot.

I will get swept (muzzles pointed directly at me) several times a year.

Nothing ever happens on BLM land because I only shoot with friends, not strangers.

I've yet to shoot on BLM land as the closest one is about a 2 hour drive for me and that is Panoche Hills.

As for my ranges I frequent I'm glad that Laguna Seca runs a good range and the RO's make sure nobody is acting a fool. Even I got yelled at one time for stepping over the redline during a ceasefire (oops) and had a guy next to me one time trying to reload and cycle his gun behind the line during a ceasefire so they told him what's what or he would be kicked out.

They have been more strict on rifle shooting since some knucklehead set the hills on fire a short while back. So they took down the gongs out at the longer range.

Now for my indoor range/gun store Markleys, its a damn free for all in there. Owner doesn't care about taking care of the range and most of the newer employees don't really care as well. Luckily I haven't seen too much horrible behavior. Just the occasional idiot messing with a loaded gun behind the line at a table or sweeping me, usually just a few words set them straight.

I love you and miss you pop.
I'll meet you on the range in heaven, keep a bench open for me.

I shoot at Markleys pretty regularly, I haven't seen anything as yet, but I'm usually concentrating on what I'm doing. I will say there are bullet holes in "interesting" places!

I was at angeles range about a year ago and there was this guy who was shooting a lever action. The reckless behavior was that he reeked of booze and during each ceasefire he would go to his car and take a few more shots. Super skechy
