It's real.

It's probably CA legal, a couple of possible hitches.

It'll probably be available sometime in 2012 (my guess based upon KelTec history)

Good luck finding one once they get on the market.

Its a Pump...why would it not be legal in CA? The AW laws that apply to Shotguns in CA are for semi-auto magazine fed (Saiga) or Rotating cylinders (Taurus Judge), there has never been anything making a pump an AW even in CA if im not mistaken... It has also come to my attention from an FFL holder I know that has stated that the 10 rd capacity limit in CA only pertains to Center Fire Rifle & Pistol Cartridges, not Shotshell or Rimfire.

But there isn't a magazine. It's tube fed isn't it? And there's a mechanical device that requires user actuation before it can switch between tubes? I thought the reason they have that device instead of auto switch over was to avoid being called an AW.

Considering it is two magazines, it is less than 10 shots per. That is where the hang up is. Can a weapon have more than two fixed magazines that total more than 10 rounds but that require mechanical intervention to change between.

Some people say because the Kal-Tek Shotgun has an OVERALL FIXED CAPACITY OVER 10 rounds that it is illegal.

Others say it is two separate magazines each less than 10 rounds that requires user intervention to change between and is no different than changing out a magazine on a pistol.

Also since this is a shotgun and not a rifle it does not go on the flow chart for needing a bullet button (tool) to change between magazines.

So I think no one knows, hell I don't even think the DOJ knows or has an opinion as of yet. The legal language is unclear. I am with the TOTALLY LEGAL camp as because it requires user intervention it is no different than changing a magazine in a pistol or other weapon. Does a pistol suddenly become in violation of the 10 round limit if I have a bracket on my pistol that supports a spare magazine in the ready position on the pistol so that it is faster to change?

Im not going to argue with you on this, but my only question is how are people getting away with using the MD-20 (Saiga 20rd Drum) in their guns when buying them as a "parts kit". Ive seen people use them at public ranges and nobody has said anything about it. Like you stated above, there were NO Saiga 12's pre-ban anywhere to be had in this country.

Easy fix- plug one of the magazines to limit capacity. You'd obviously need a tool to remove the plug (since the mag isn't removable), so the shotgun cannot be made illegal while it is assembled and in a firing state.

OR just remove the 'guts' of the second magazine. It'll still work and shoot fine on one mag, and you can own it.

Wrong, it applies to all weapons except.....

12020 (c)(25) As used in this section, "large-capacity
magazine" means any ammunition feeding device with the capacity
to accept more than 10 rounds, but shall not be construed to
include any of the following:
(A) A feeding device that has been permanently altered so
that it cannot accommodate more than 10 rounds.
(B) A .22 caliber tube ammunition feeding device.
(C) A tubular magazine that is contained in a lever-action
firearm.

The unanswered question on the Kel-Tec is what is the definition of a "ammunition feeding device"? Since the Kel-Tec's tubes are fixed together as one unit and loaded through the same port, is the entire two tube mechanism one "ammunition feeding device" or is it two separate magazines?

They do make lever action shotguns though. Possible mod in the future?
