My guess is city, state, and government agencies have contracts with manufacturers. Those contracts are money that has already been paid to the manufacturer and now the orders have to be filled. It appears that all those orders are probably near being completed, based on this time of year, and now they can begin to fill the non-contract orders which could explain why we are beginning to see 22LR trickling in. I bet by the end of the year, .22LR supplies will be caught up and prices will come back down to where they we're before and so will all the other calibers.Yeah the big online retailers and their funny business...
Either way .22 lr ammo has been really trickling in the supply chain the last couple weeks.
My question is why the hell did it take nearly 9 months after the panic started for .22 lr ammo to be somewhat available?
I am convinced the big three(Winchester/Remington/ATK) temporarily stopped producing .22 lr ammo at the heat of the panic to crank out the more profitable centerfire ammo.Comment

I hope you are right, I think it is only going to get better from here. The more ammo that gets out there, the more saturated the market is going to be and the less people are going to buy.Comment

We'll see. My feeling is that so far buying ammunition has been an excellent inflation hedge and I don't see that changing any time soon. Once we can order by the case (which you can do now if you're set up with the CMP - it's something like 5.8 cents/round delivered) if you shoot .22 and can possibly afford it you would be crazy not to stick a couple of cases in the back of the closet. Sure beats dealing with CA ammo licenses or driving to Reno or whatever it is people are planning on doing.Comment

No freaking kidding, hopefully there is a sweet spot in the next 22 months we have to order ammo online(given the ammo bill passes) that cases are readily available for reasonable prices. I am going to stock up all I can as I am NOT buying a CA ammo license.Comment
