I have changed everything on my Ruger 10/22 except for the receiver and screw that holds receiver to the stock so I don't know why this is such a surprise but....

...I just ordered my Boyds Rimfire Hunter and DIP trigger/guard and charging handle for my NIB 795...and just those two items are more than I paid for the rifle. Worth it, so I hear, but still a strange feeling! lol

P.S. DIP Trigger Guards are Backordered for a week or so if anyone else is thinking about picking one up in the not too distant future.

I love my DIP trigger, guard and charging handle. So I doubt you will regret it.
I hope you're charging handle drops right in.. both of mine needed a good bit of fitting..

Ditto, love my DIP parts (same as you) although my charging handle didn't need any fitting.

Same goes for me. The DIP stuff works great. Had someone familiar with the stock 795 try it and they notice right off the bat the better feel of the width of the trigger.

Think you will really like the Boyd's Rimfire Hunter stock. Gives it a larger feel.

How much are those running these days? I've got a NOS Marlin wood stock; same profile but solid and adds some heft.

It may be pricey, but well worth it IMO.

                      Hi All,

Stupid first 795 LTR clone question on a Boyds stock, assuming I am not using a bipod and using a standard 2 point GI sling...

...does the front sling swivel go on the first pin closest to muzzle or second pin closest to trigger?

                      Thank you all in advance,

Bi-Pod goes on closest to muzzle. Sling closest to trigger. Otherwise the sling would interfere with the Bi-Pod.
If common sense was so common, why don't liberals possess any?

I understand, but if I am not going to use a bi-pod is there any advantage/disadvantage to mounting the sling farther out?

I think chaos is right. Whichever works better for you is fine.

Now for some theory of what "works better".

So, shooting slinged up in prone, sitting, standing. I believe after the mechanics of the position, another important aspect is repeatability. So you want the same cheek weld, the same grip on the trigger hand and on the forend. The sling swivel position can be used as an aid to gain this repeatibility. Sliding your hand up against the swivel location gets your hand in the same spot each time. It's a known quantity, an easy marker, so to speak.

So with that line of thinking, with the two positions on that stock, it's just a matter of which one fits your body type. If you're long armed, you could probably use the furthest one, shorter armed, go for the closer swivel stud. If you get down prone, sling up and try both, you'll probably be able to "feel" which one is right.

                                Make sense?
Stand up and be counted, or lay down and be mounted... -Mac
