Finally got to try out the new Boyd's Rimfire Hunter stock I posted pictures of on 8/18. Shoots great. Got a lot of compliments from everyone who tried shooting my 795. They liked the Tech-Sights, DIP trigger guard and trigger, and the Rimfire Hunter stock. One comment was "somebody has been spending some time with the parts catalogs". Really like the way the rifle shoots and feels with the new stock.NRA Life Member

Yup! People really like the Boyd's stocks and Tech-Sights! I get complimented on mine every time I take them to the range!

How are you guys mounting your scopes? I bought a somewhat cheap bushnell 4x32, and it came with rings. I just attached them to the standard rail that comes on the gun, and tightened and retightened them, but no matter what after 50 to 100 rounds or so the scope will slip. I've seen a picatinny mount you can put on top, do those work well? Maybe it's just the cheap scopes problem
I prefer the DIP picatinny rail so I can use the rings of my choice.PaulComment

I use a one-piece scope mount I got off amazon. It has 4 screws so it holds well the the rifle and, of course, has two scope rings.
Something like this...
Just search for one-piece scope mount and make sure its for a 3/8 dovetail.

I took my 795 out shooting a few days ago and kept having this certain problem. It happened almost every magazine. I would should 1 or 2 rounds and then I would just hear a click. I opened up the action, and the bolt didn't strip a round off the magazine. This happened repeatedly, almost every single mag I shot. Maybe a full breakdown and cleaning is in order? Has anyone else had this problem?Comment

Hey Chaos47,
Received the Boyd's stock. Very nice. Rifle feels more hefty. The comb is much higher. With the recoil pad it probably added another 1/4" onto the length of pull. The only odd thing is the barrel looks like it is too short for the stock. The original stock measured about 9" from the muzzle to the start of the forestock. The Hunter stock leaves about 6" of exposed barrel. Haven't been to test it at the range yet. Checked and the barrel is free floated all the way back to the action. Really like it. Showed a photo to another 795 owner and he liked it. Boyd's also threw in a nice Boyd's cap with the order.

Comparison photo:

Stock looks great!
If only this was available when I got mine.

LTR Question:
As simple and desirable as the optioned up, training/rifle package seems, are there known California retailers who will *liberate* such a rifle in exchange for the right cash amount?
Sounded great when I first read about that package, but so many people respond on these forums that one CAN start with the basic 795 and add the very same options for 'similar' money. Does this mean that effectively, the LTR is a VERY difficult product to find in Brck-N-Mortr (so-cal) stores, or does it mean that the LTR was never something that the marketplace truly needed, since the accessory/upgrades area always in good supply?
Thanks for any hints about LRT distribution!Comment

I can't answer about where to find the retail version of the LTR, but you can pretty much put one together on you own. From what the Marlin LTR looks like they added Tech-Sights, sling swivels and a sling. Maybe someone can tell you how they embossed "Appleseed LTR" on the receiver. I'd like to know because I'd like to do something similar for the elevation adjustment for the Tech-Sights since they don't have windage or elevation adjustment markings on their rears sights.NRA Life Member

I don't know about any brick and mortar retailers (they would have had to of ordered it for their store as I thought it was a Davidson's exclusive: Marlin 795 LTR), but as far as "is it hard to find:" it was a limited production product. Add that it is a very popular firearm with popular sights and an extra magazine that people couldn't find at the time, I'm sure it sold fairly well. It's sold out on the website anywaysLTR Question:

Part of the cost was that you got a certificate to attend an Appleseed shoot; a value of $70-ish I think it is?

I'm not sure if anyone knows this but I just picked up my Marlin 795 and it does have the weird sling mounts on it. But I ordered the ATI swivel stud kit with my champion bi pod and I didn't need the stud. The champion bi pod mounts to the existing molded stock.
