Question. Does the Marlin 795 LTR only come in one flavor with synthetic stock and trigger guard?
    Thanks -g

I'm pretty sure it is just the one style. Both the blued and SS 795s come in a synthetic stock and there isn't another option. Boyd's makes some nice replacements though

Thanks. Just looking to see if would be cost effective to build one from a
795, while adding the Boyd's stock,Tech Sights, and sling or search for the
        795LTR.
Doing some research for my brother. I created a monster last weekend taking my nephew to the range to fire my Marlin60 and Mossberg1944.
The kid has a birthday coming up next week and my bro wants to surprise him.
I thought a 795LTR and a trip to an Appleseed would be Righteous Rabbit for a 13yo.

You can totally build a LTR by yourself.
They use off the shelf parts and people were putting them together themselves before the official LTR model came out.

The benefit to the official LTR is the certificate to attend Appleseed. Since hes under 18 he would get in for a discount price anyways.. so keep that in mind.

The Boyds stocks are probably the biggest improvement you can make to a 795 IMO. Triggers are nice but the stock changes the whole feel of the gun.

Correct, I did the same to my Marlin60

I hear that they stopped giving the certs away last year.

Yes, quality Lam drop in stock

If I could find 795LTR's in stock it would be worth it to buy a complete rifle, but building one is easy also. -g

Interesting about stopping the certs I hadn't heard that.

                I love my Boyds stocks!
BTW the Rimfire Hunter / Target.. they changed the name but its somthing along those names still. Has kind of a high comb. My GF's rifle has Williams firesights on it and they sit a bit too low for the comb... Not sure how it would be with techsights as they are taller. It seems that stock is more suitable for a scope'd settup.

Can anybody tell me about using the Model 70 stock from Numrich for the 795?

I gather there is some modification that is required, but I would like to know what I'm getting into. Also, what sort of wood should I expect to receive? The choices offered are all described as "hardwood", so I presume that means not walnut.

Any input on the procedure, and on the resulting product, would be welcome. Thanks for any attention you can provide.

I did the same thing with the sights and trigger guard. I added a WW2 GI magazine pouch on the stock for two extra magazines and a GI M1 carbine sling and now I'm ready for the 'Walking Dead' zombie apocalypse. The Marlin 795 is way under rated and under appreciated .22 rifle.

The trigger guard area is different. You will have to carve out the area to fit your 795 trigger guard plate. Simple really. Took me a couple of hours on a rainy day using an X-acto knife.

                          Do it. You'll like it.

                            Hey easy,

Did you have to do any further modifications to the Model 70 stock to get it to fit? Would have happen to have the Numrich part number?

Transitioning from handguns to rifles....after research looking to purchase the Marlin 795 (over the Ruger 10/22), but where can I buy one in So-Cal to avoid FFL transfer fees? Googling led me to some "old" Big 5 pages but nothing recent.

No such options any more. Not sure there ever were for the 795. Never was C&R that I know of, and now with the whole long gun registration thing, it aint happening anyway. You can avoid FFL by moving out of state and doing PPT in a free state you become a resident of.
