I'm looking into purchasing a Big5 795 and I had a couple of questions for all of you who currently own one:

Anyone looked into replacing the stock with something similar to a Boyds Evolution thumbhole wooden stock with some minor modifications? I know they make some for the Marlin 917. (I've already considered the ATI and the bullpup stocks)
Thanks in advance for any comments or suggestions.

You'd need to find the dimensions of the Marlin 917...

I have seen rumors on Rimfire Central about people modding stocks made for 10/22's to fit the Marlins, but I'm not over there enough to actually find anything on it.

I just looked at a 917 on the marlin website....and it's owners manual.

It looks really similar....but it looks like there will be modifications needing to be done to make it fit properly. The trigger guard is different than the 795, and since it's a different rifle/bolt action, stuff isn't going to be drop in anyways.

Range Trip -(ati stock, caldwell front rest, various ammo, new intensity 4-12x44mm scope and mount)

My recent trip to the range confirmed that there is no way the scope mount will be moving anytime soon. The mount probably would be secure without the extra loctite blue I added but it's just added insurance at this point.

I started the target at 25yards, to make the zeroing of the scope easier. Prior to arriving I had the scope elev and windage all set as close to the middle as possible. The scope needed a lot of up elevation clicks (50+) and a little right adjustment. Because of the various heights of the shooting benches, I struggled with the rest that I purchased. It was too tall, and I couldn't use the rear rest at any point and was fighting the front rest for a comfortable position. I had to many variables I was playing with. New rifle, stock, mount, scope, and way to many varieties of ammo (cci blazer, rem gold, rem sub, win 333, eley). I had a bunch of FailureToFire, FailedToEjects, and more through approx 250 rounds.

Between 25 to 50yards no adjustment, 100 yards need a lot of up elevation, I think 25+. I ran out of sunlight so I never finished all that I wanted at the range that day. What I thought was a powerful scope at first at 12x quickly looks small at longer distances when trying to hit the paper targets. I'm adding 2 small strips of electrical tape to the inside of the rear scope ring to gain back some elevation clicks. I didn't want to remove the scope mount and add shims underneath the mount after securing it so well. We'll see how it works on my next trip to the range.

I see a lot room for improvement in my shooting and perhaps now that I'm finished inhaling all these paint fumes I can concentrate I why I purchased the rifle in the first place, ... to shoot the darn thing

Fantastic paint job, kneedeep! Any step-by-step tutorial pics on how?

And BKL makes a ring/mount combo that's rock-solid (no creep) and will give you a little more elevation. I have one on my Marlin 60 (this one: http://www.bkltech.com/1_inch_Dia_6_..._p/bkl-260.htm), and it'd take something nuclear to move it.

              Thanks.
Using the Krylon Paints it was super easy and took just a few minutes between coats. I finished with several layers of the Krylon Matte Clear.

Sniper's hide took the time to add their technique and a lot of members posted some pics of their camo paint jobs there.

Hello everyone, got a question regarding my Marlin 7000. I know that it is suppose to be a 795 with a heavy barrel, my question is if it is safe to fire CCI stinger through it? I fired about 50rd through it last weekend, but now that I think of it, I wonder if it is safe or not. CCI rated the Stinger at 1650fps hypervelocity, would it damage my receiver, also if the receiver stronger on 7000, or is it the same as 795. Thanks for your help.

don't make a habit of it. the receiver of the 795 is aluminum. I would not do us it unless you find a heavier recoil spring, but then it may have impact on the wear to the bolt face with a heavier spring.

Use normal or HV and save the stingers for your bolt guns if you have them.

Speaking of a Marlin 7000....would we be able to put that barrel onto our 795's?
