It's not necessary, but there are people who have no idea how to use their irons and their scope breaks or the mount falls off or something and then they act like the gun might as well be a club. Other people think they need a $1000 optic to hit something 50 yards away, and some people buy a $30 scope that won't hold a zero and then blame the rifle.

edit: Another example of learning to do something that people have a habit of not doing(laziness maybe) would be shooting from a position other than from sandbags on a 400 pound bench/table. Last time I was at the range, literally everyone with a rifle was using bags on the bench and I was literally the only one out of probably 30 people using my sling instead with my marlin(I was still being lazy sitting on the stool because I was busy keeping an eye on a new shooter I took with me).

There are probably a few other "lazy" things that a lot of shooters do(probably myself included).

Anyone else tried lightening the trigger pull by using trigger springs in reverse so that it pulls the trigger back and applies pressure against the disconnector spring? I used two floppy disk springs to do just that and I might be just be imagining it, but I think it helps with the trigger pull. Shot about 500 rnds through it in this configuration and no hiccups with firing at all. The only thing that changed is that I now have to move the trigger forward to engage the safety, no biggie.

Might want to try drop testing it! "Preloading" the transfer bar could result in a unsafe firearm.

I have heard of some peoples DIP triggers being to aggressively set and the top set screw was preloading the bar and would result in it being fired when jarred.

Personally I removed my trigger spring. The transfer bar is enough to reset the trigger. I haven't shot it this way but I will be this weekend. Dry firing it with snap caps removing the spring made a big improvement.

Maybe just smack it around with your hands so you won't damage the rifle by dropping it?

If you don't have a scope on it then yea drop it onto the butt of the stock from apx waist height so 3-4 feet. It's not going to hurt the rifle, but that may hurt a scope.

It's also good to test this with the safety on and off

Figure out how much a 795 would cost, add in tech sights, magazine, and sling to the cost. As far as the other mods on that ad, I dunno(most of 'em can be done pretty cheap and aren't necessary).

I agree as that's all you need for the Marlin. Less work to do than trying to soup up a 10/22. Though you will need some swivels for the sling if you don't get a sling with swivels. You can also get a real cheap barska scope for around $15 that fits right on the built-in dovetail mounts on the receiver.

I got a sling from Walmart, it was made by Winchester and it was either 1 inch or 1.5 inches and it came with the sling adapter and it was $15.
