Extended the guard area and cut the magazine slot by hand with a chisel and coping saw. You could use a dremel as someone else posted some pages back.

It is a wood stock, just has a textured paint they spray over it. Underneath it is "pepper laminate" someones on rimfirecentrals underneath the paint was "nutmeg" guess I was lucky..

And, come to think of it, Chaos, where did you find your on-the-butt mag holder?

Thanks to cornice6; a wooden stock on its way from Numrich (also to keep better company with a K31!).

It's a standard barrel the stock just plays optical illusions and makes it look fatter and shorter.
Marlin did make a heavy barrel version of the 795, it was called the 7000

Stock pad/pack is a knock off one got mine from http://gijoesmilitarysurplus.com/
Way cheaper then the name brand ones and has held up well.

Ah gotcha. I thought it might have been a limited run/NOS synthetic. Looks good. And that barrel/stock do make the barrel seem like a HBAR.

Numrich and Graf & Sons are the best for K31 gear and I can't wait to get the wood stock and see how it works out.

I wrote and posted this in a M60 thread but I'm sure some can find it helpful here too

                  Link to manual: http://www.marlinfirearms.com/pdfs/m..._22LRMACH2.pdf

                  Dis-assembly
Going from memory so I may have left some parts out...

                  795 Remove magazine
M60 check, double / triple check that magazine tube is unloaded!

Actuate bolt multiple times insuring that Rifle is unloaded!!
                  Visually and physically check

                  Unscrew trigger guard assembly
Remove trigger guard assembly from stock
Remove receiver and action from stock
Pull pin on back of action near buffer
                  Separate action from receiver
                  Pull back bolt
Carefully tilt it up and release spring tension without bending the recoil spring.

Action: (No need to do this unless you are changing parts or doing a trigger job)
Capture the hammer spring with a paper clip going thru the hole on the Hammer Strut
Release tension on hammer. Using your thumb to let it down slowly. (push on the transfer bar to release hammer)
Hammer, Hammer strut, Spring and Hammer Strut Bridge should all now be locked into one piece
Remove e clips (flat head screw driver or dental pick may be useful for this) (put the e clips in a baggy these things are super easy to lose!)
                  Separate the plates
Might want to do this in a large ziplock... especially if you don't capture the hammer. Trust me I forgot to capture it once and removed the e clips the action exploded...

                  Action reassembly:
Position all parts onto one side of the plate (easier to do on the side with the supports)
Center support can be tricky to get to sit right
                  Sandwich parts and plates
Push it together and jiggle supports and center support till they all protrude
Replace e clips (small needle nose pliers especially bent ones may be helpful here)
                  Cock hammer
Remove paper clip from hammer strut hole

                  Reassembly:
Sit bolt handle in the ejection port
Put spring back on guide rod
Put spring and guide rod in bolt
Position guide rod into groove on receiver
Carefully compress spring into the bolt as to not bend spring
Angle bolt and guide down together at the same angle into receiver and line it up to connect with the bolt handle
Insure that guide rod is in its groove hole (This is important! More then once after getting the bolt in my guide rod was not in the hole but on the lip of it)
                  Connect action
                  Replace action pin
Fit action and receiver to stock
                  Reposition trigger guard
Long screw back / short front

                  Note:
Marlin rimfires like to run DRY. Oil it but then wipe it down. Excess oil will only allow things to stick to it and gum it up. Personally all I use is CLP wiped dry on my 795's
While the rifle is apart check the condition of the recoil buffer. If it is torn, cracked etc then get a replacement. People say the black ones are better... I dunno if its true
Do not shoot hyper velocity ammo.
Go ahead and order a replacement recoil spring as eventually you will probably kink yours...

Diagrams for the 60 (couldn't find jpgs for the 795 but you can see them in the manual if you really need)

Marlin Wood Stock Has Arrived From Numrich!!

The UPS truck just stopped by and first thing I did was get pictures for the thread. The buttplate is a plastic Marlin unit and it seems to be 100% drop-in and ready to go and came with the sling posts. Pictures:
                    Fore-end:

                    Comb and butt:

                    Buttplate:

Bottom view of cutouts for receiver and mag:

Top view of cutout for receiver:

Overall, it was very nicely finished, no rough spots, although it does seem smaller than the synthetic stock The fore-end is actually a little longer when next to each other. I'll post comparison pics later on. Overall, not bad for $50. Enjoy.

Going to work on swapping the stocks and get comparison pics for that as well as finished pics. Will update as I go.

                          SUCCESS!!!

Swapped the stocks; 100% drop-in, no fitting needed. Separate the triggerguard and receiver and refit in new stock and put screws back in. Only issue that worried me was when I loaded one of my new 10rd mags with 10 snap caps in it: It would not feed the round into the chamber, but strip the round and smash it into the top of the receiver... Ejected ok, but would not feed properly. So I loaded a round singly and then closed the bolt and put the mag in to allow it to fire. Saw the mark on the rim so receiver fits within specs. Put the mag in with only 5 rds and it feeds perfectly, seems like a mag/magspring issue with the light plastic snap caps, nothing with stock or receiver. The length of pull seems a little shorter but the fore-end is a tad longer than on the synthetic stock. The biggest improvement is the added weight; it no longer feels flimsy and like a Nerf gun. For me, it points more precisely and quickly and has a nice heft to it. If Numrich has them still and you want a simple OEM 100% drop-in, get this. A Boyd's is probably nicer, but I don't even own a Dremel so this saved me money and provided a great improvement. On to the pictures:

Also, I just thought of it and looked: The wood stock does not have the hollow compartment in the stock or pistol grip. It popped in my head and I grabbed a screwdriver and checked- no dice. So, if your 795 is more of a survival rifle, maybe stick with the synthetic stock (I can fit 4 mags in mine); if you're looking for something for plinking and Appleseed, I think the wooden stock is the way to go.

I picked mine up at Turners for $109 after rebate I believe. All I did is ad a nice American made nylon sling. I'm very impressed with the accuracy of this little rifle.
