Optics Planet sometimes lists "In Stock" items that are apparently not in stock.

Recently ordered some Noveske flush-mount QDs. Listed as "In Stock", but took 6 weeks to get them. I get that there are COVID-related delays, but in the same period I ordered stuff from Midway and got it in less than a week...so it's not a postal service issue.

I ordered several boxes of 338 A-Tips and was given a order confirmation.
A couple days passed and they pushed the shipping date out a full month. After the month elapses they pushed the ship date out another month on items there website said they had in stock.

I was told they drop ship items so it's the distributors sending it out.

I like their prices though. Good discounts.

And don't forget, we live in crazy times!

Like many modern retailers in the 'clicks v bricks' era, do not expect their staff to have any genuine knowledge/insight/information, because they don't. These are mostly twenty something kids making $14/hr. They're just 'box pushers'. Boxes come on one door, and go out the other. Understand what you're dealing with and calibrate your expectations accordingly.
Im pretty sure Amazon works the same way.
If your website states you have the product and you accept my order I tend to expect that order to be shipped out in less than 2 weeks.
In the case of Optics planet they don't have the product and wait several days before they tell you that.
They then issue you an expected date and keep pushing out your order.
A box of factory bullets readily available elsewhere shouldn't take them two plus months to ship.
I cancelled the 338 order and as soon as they fail to ship the 375 bullets I will cancel that order as well.
I am on a dozen backorder lists for products and gave zero issues with waiting if I am told up front they don't have the product.
It's when you place an order and get a confirmation that later gets changed twice that I lose faith.

After cancelling the only 2 orders I ever placed with them - the last one 3 mos. ago - they sent a "customer service survey" yesterday.

I politely refused to fill it out. I must be losing it in my old age...

People here complain about them a lot but my personal experience has always been excellent. I just ordered a Streamlight TLR-6. Shipping was delayed. Went to B&H and ordered from them. B&H was also delayed. Optic planet ended it shipping to me before B&H could. I think any shipping issues are probably universal with everyone. I've been very happy with them.

I hate to pile on, but i'll never be ordering from Optics Planet again. Both times I have ordered from them, the item that showed in-stock, was immediately backordered. The first time I ordered, I waited months for my scope to arrive. This latest fiasco involves some magazines I ordered. They showed in-stock but after taking the order, they emailed me telling me they were backordered. Another vendor had the magazines I needed in-stock, so I attempted to cancel my order with Optics Planet so I could order them from the secondary vendor. Optics Planet hadn't confirmed my cancellation for 72 hours and the website didn't reflect the request. As I wasn't going to take my chances with Optics Planet, I had to wait to make an order with the secondary vendor until I got confirmation from OP that my order was cancelled. Needless to say, I have had no confirmation of cancellation and now the secondary vendor is now out of stock as well. Looks like i'm left holding the bag. Unless they solve this in a big way, I'll never spend my money there again. The small savings isn't worth the experience.

After reading a fair number of reviews on a number of scopes, I picked a Leupold Vx-3i LRP, and with all the stores shutdown ordered it from Tombstone Tactical in AZ. They had a great deal on them. If you want to save money, it's not hard to find good prices from reputable dealers outside of California.

This thread just reminded me I ordered something from OpticsPlanet a few weeks ago and they said it would ship in August I believe. I don't even remember what it was. I guess I'll get a surprise in August.

My first order through their eBay storefront took about a week to ship so it was good.

My second order was through their website when said it was in stock but then said one of my items was out of stock. I waited for about a month for them to ship but have received couple status updates in the meantime, so not too bad. I don't mind the wait as long as they kept me in the loop.

I will continue to do business with them because my overall customer experience with them is still acceptable.

If the most important thing is to save a few bucks Optics planet is for you.... Hell will freeze over before I would give them an order again.

I ordered a Burris XTRii on January 2nd. AWESOME discount of 55%. Did NOT show out of stock when I ordered. Went to check on the order a few days later, and "expected" ship date is January 29th. That stinks. As long as that holds true, I will be happy. To save that amount of course I guess it's expected. Wait and see I guess. It's my first time ordering from them. B.
