Bert's site says 1921 - 1928...... can you narrow that down a bit?

      Tip o' the hat, sir!

This one is a real peach, too, chambered in 32-20. I just DROS'ed it this morning, so I'll have it in-hand on the 26th.

I'm pretty happy about stumbling across this one.

I picked up an oddball Winchester (to me at least). Model 74, semi auto .22 short only fed via a brass mag tube in the stock. Serial number is 146805. Are these worth anything? I had never seen one, figured for $90 May as well pick it up.
Buying a safe and sane firework is like paying a hooker for a hug. I do not see the appeal in it.

Made about Jan of 1947, with 28356 made that year.
Made from 1938 to 1959 in .22 Short or .22LR, with a total of 406,574 made. Production was ceased for the war years, and resumed in 1946. Yours should have a 24" barrel, post 1950 will have a 22" barrel. Later production had grooved receivers for scopes.
          You stole it for $90!

It did seem like it had an oddly long barrel for a .22 short only, thanks!

Made Jan or Feb in the first year of 1924, with 2,458 made that year.
That's a rare one, made 1924 to 1932, with total production of 15,110. They had their own serial numbers sequence from 1924 through the end of 1927. In 1928 to 1932 they were in the Model 1892 sequence.
Munky, Michael is compiling a comprehensive survey on Model 1892's and and their variations. The information on your rifle would be very valuable to him, as well as Winchester history. Email him at 2bitrifles@gmail.com with "Winchester Model 53" in the subject line. He will want clear close up pics on certain features of the rifle. In return, he can give you the exact DOM to the day, and any information a Cody letter will contain.

                          Hi,

How about a 1873, SN 400790b, .32 WCF, octagon barrel?

                          Thanks in advance.

Oh, and if one needs parts, where would one look?

I know the it's missing the firing pin; I've ordered a take-down manual from homesteadparts.com so I can dive into it a little deeper and see what's missing.
