09cs, as you probably already figured out from previous posts, all my info is for the Pre 64's.
3,000,000 was assembled in 1970, in Jan. of 1980, number 5,200,000 was made. So my best, kinda educated guess at 220,000 made a year during that time frame, would be about 1979. If you call the company that is now Winchester, they can probably nail it down to day and month.

Gee I wonder if I should hang it up and not hunt with it anymore. Thanks for the info.

I don't own safe queens, they all get shot, so I may be a little bias with my advice.

I have a model 55 with a serial #1084XXX which is out of the production range but falls under model 94 Year 1933.
Is this one of the “left over parts” model 55’s and was it made in 1933?
There were approximately 20,580 Model 55's made from 1924 to 1932, in both solid, and take down frames. Offered in .30/30, .32WS, and .25/35.
From 1924 to 1929, they had their own serial number sequence. In 1929 they fell within the Model 94 sequence, until they were discontinued at the end of 1932.
Serial #1084XXX Model 55 was made mid to late 1932, and was not a “left over parts” gun.
Edit: Ag_Surfer, Bert is still doing his Model 55 survey, email him at Win1885@msn.com Put "WINCHESTER" in the subject line, and tell him Trap sent you.
He'll tell you what he needs to know about the rifle, and can give you the exact day and month it was made.

Hey TRAP55, I got another one for you. I just picked this up today from another Calgunner. A Model 55, serial # 7813. The owner told me he thought it was made in 1927.

                              Thanks!

And in all fairness, just because JMB did it doesn't mean anything. He'd have won WWII with a soup can, a fork, and a couple rocks. Seriously, even McGuyver and Steven Hawking get together every now and then and are like "How the **** did he do that?..."

John, it was made in 1927, sometime in the first half of the year, with 4,815 made that year.
Read my edit above and get the info on it to Bert! Make sure and ask if the tang sight was was a special order too.
