Something a little newer..... inbound as we speak, a Winchester 94/22 XTR serial number F516454.

I called Winchester, and they guessed "early 80's".
Always looking for vintage Winchester and Marlin lever action rifles. Looking to sell? Know of one for sale? Drop me a line!

Guess or WAG is all I can do on post 64 guns. Pretty sad when the company formally known as Winchester, but still uses the name, can't even date their own guns, and have to "guess".
          It was made in 1982.
          BTW...I love Bill the Cat!

Rob, that one was made early in 1959, with 49,440 made that year.

Chris, are you making me guess it's a Model 1894?
If it is, it was made in late 1905, with 41,924 made that year.

                      Hi TRAP55
I wonder if you might have some details on my gun please?
I have an ex-RIC (Royal Irish Constabulary) short barrel Winchester 1897 serial number E721223
It looks to be stamped RIC 318 on the left side of the stock. I love it for it's history & that it's still in perfect working order.

                      Thanks,
                      John

John, your gun was made in 1920, with 30,483 made that year. The "E" series was the last Model 1897 production change, until the very last one was made in 1957.
JMO, I would see if the Cody Museum can letter this one, being RIC marked. It will increase the value, and probably show who Winchester sold it to, and when it shipped. I'd like to see some pics of those marking too! Some of the proof marks might give a better history timeline.

Oh wow, thanks TRAP55. I'll try to get some pictures of the stock markings, they are pretty faded now. I'd be guessing they were added by the RIC once they had the gun, basically just their own inventory number?

I can tell you about your Winchester, but I would be lost on the RIC part. But....there are a couple of guys here on the C&R forum that gear their collections around the Irish guns. I have no doubt they can overload you with that info.
Stock cartouches, and proof marks, clear close-ups if you can!

Saigon, that one was made mid 1941, with 15,306 made that year.
That was a big drop in production, less than half of what was made in 1940. The following year of 1942, set a production record for the Model 12 of 105,207, most of which went to the air force for gunnery school training. If yours hadn't been sold and shipped yet, it would have got drafted too.
Does that one have a flaming bomb on it anywhere?
