You do not need to be afraid to own a black rifle. The laws are clear. As long as you have a good understanding of the law you'll be fine. AR15's are great rifles and lots of fun.

It doesn't matter how hard you try to resist. You'll be infected with black rifle disease soon enough

The bullet button and 2-10 round mags were shipped with it! That's what gets me...

Wow, J&R are vendors here on Calguns.net. Ironic that they do not understand our state laws, but are vendors on a webpage of a foundation that is fighting for our 2A rights. Perhaps someone should send this link to them?

They know the laws. They took a smack in the face and are giving it right back. I can understand why they wouldn't want to do a transfer without being asked first, but to give the reason they do is pretty shameful and vindictive. Maybe you should tell them to go ahead and send it to the cops and see what happens. Just tell them "Great, I'll just pick it up there, then. Thanks!"

Okay, this is freaking weird. J&R in Livermore sells lowers AR-15 lowers themselves, last I checked. They have heard of bullet buttons, I bought mine from them. This is bizarre.

The only way I can explain this is to figure that some joker called someone who works at J&R and told them that you had sex with their daughter and impregnated her out of wedlock, and now they are trying to get revenge for (what they think is) their daughter's besmirched honor. Can you think of anyone who would do this to you?

LOL!! Now, that was funny! No, I don't have any enemies...seriously.

I can't think of anyone who would do this to me. I don't let anyone know my business, especially when I go to gun shops.

Sounds like a big heaping pile of FUD from your FFL.
I can't believe people in the business can let themselves get so behind in the times, or so apathetic that it turns to ignorance.

Sorry you had a bad experience with your FFL, lesson learned, move on.

Agreed...J&R is a good shop and they are nice people and I wouldn't hold this against them...it's not worth my time being angry.

Time to go to the range and blow off some steam...lol

Isn't it considered a common courtesy to ask the FFL first if they are willing to accept a firearm shipment?

Maybe he was just miffed that you didn't ask and over reacted by claiming it is an assault weapon.

Still sucks though. Who needs this kind of drama.

                          Strict log in procedure?

J & R has always been A-OK with every transfer I personally had there.
Easy to work with even when I did not contact prior to them receiving the firearms. Great people and good stock on hand. They do stock AR's and even have AR tools in stock.

I am guessing there may be a strict protocol about accepting firearms for transfer whereas they cannot do any modifications to make them comply to AW laws...........Period! The DOJ is not FFL friendly.

Complete lower........ Probably has a pistol grip........ AW if it is marked 556 and does not have a Bullet Button installed.

If any other FFL received this in the same condition, they may refuse it too. Not worth jeopardizing their FFL to be a nice guy and install the bullet button shipped but not installed.

It should not have been sent to a California FFL, specially from another CA FFL, in any condition that could be mistaken as an AW.

There may be more to the story and time will tell. Please post the actual issue and remedy used to comply or resolve this issue.

I for one, would like to know if there is really a problem with any local FFL and suspect this will be resolved as best as the law will allow.

I agree that J&R is a great shop and have great people. And yes, that was probably the case that it wasn't worth jeopardizing their FFL to be a nice guy and install the BB. I should've called before having it shipped there...I have learned my lesson and rest assured, it won't happen again. It was when he told me the item will be turned over to the authorities is what set me off...I didn't want it to escalate to that.

I have heard of a ton of people blindly sending fire arms to FFLs, generally I think they shouldn't mind, either way its income to them while only handling a little paperwork, if you didn't send it to them you would be sending it to someone else, why be a freaking baby about it (them not you ).

Even if it is out of protocol what you did, the way they treated you in return was way out of order. My only guess is without the bullet button installed they believed it was an AW by CP which is wrong, CP does not apply to AW. What was shipped was NOT an AW... Not an AW...

I sure hope they were just mistaken about the laws, now it sounds like they do deal with black rifles and if what they did was some vindictive way of trying to teach you a lesson because you bought from out of area or didn't call them first to tell them you wanted to give them "free" money then screw them, the AR/weapon community would be better off without them, no reason to needlessly spread FUD and undermine the foundation what has taken years to create...

I am done, goodluck bro, I hope this works out well for you.

J&R is Awesome I shop there all the time. I had a Stag transfered there from gunbroker, all I had to do was ship the seller the 10rd mag and bullet button, he installed it and when it arrived it was all good. Also bought a stripped lower there and an XD. Your problem is not having the bullet button installed when it arrived. Have riflegear install the bullet button and everything should be fine.
