Yep, that's what this one is and why I originally wanted it. I've got a pretty decent collection of first gen and first year of manufacture guns, and this would have been a great addition. It still seems to be very accurate, the few rounds I fired, but having to beat the lever open after each round sucks.

first year models are great collectors, usually lowest production numbers too.. I've only got a couple first and last year editions in my collection, they're keepers for sure..Yep, that's what this one is and why I originally wanted it. glad you've got a barrel solution for yours, hopefully someday a correct length barrel turns up your way.. maybe create some gunbroker searches and get lucky, I've landed a few difficult to find guns that way
these two Marlin 783 models are my favorite rimfires in .22wmr..
top one is 1975 with highly sought after extremely rare Marlin brand 4x scope..
bottom is a first year 1971, notice the difference in mag tube barrel brackets, the original is aluminum which often suffer finish loss like this one..

Yep! Very cool tube feeders. Can I have them?
I've got an early Spencer and a second year Winchester 1885 in 22 Long also. (They're lever action, so they fit in the thread!). I'd trade it for a first year, if anyone is looking for one made in 1886 for some reason.

^ ^ ^ That looks like where in wetter times the mud hole is in the road.
Well, h.e. double-hockey-sticks! If'd I'd a-knowen! ...but today was wheel-alignment day on my rig, so I couldn'ta made it anyho0.
Gotta get in early! then get out. It's gonna be *real warm* for the next week! 108 up there, and 118 down in the other!
I'll stay out here near the Pacific for a bit. See you fellers real soon, though.

It wasn't too hot but then we got there at 7am and left at 10am. The rain was just enough to make me wish I had brought the easyup (easy my ***) but not enough to set it up.
A little father son time. We took his AR15 too. His has to be the nicest of the bunch that I built in another life. Good trigger and shoots everything you put in it. Not one hiccup, ever.It takes a lot of balls to play golf the way I do.
Happiness is a warm gun.

Killer Bee - I have a Marlin 782 .22 Mag with a really pretty stock with lots of dark grain. My Dad and I bought matching ones at GEMCO in Lakewood eons ago. I like it, but my Win 9422M does outshoot it.Comment

^ 40 years ago I woulda taken that challenge with my 783
but I'll admit I've been poking around occasionally for one of those winchesters, very nice guns! glad to hear they perform as well..
like to see 'em, you can sneak that bolt in with it.. well at least they haven't kicked me out yet

Well, I did not mean that as a challenge. It is just the way it is with my two rifles. The Marlin has the advantage of liking the "regular" Winchester 40 gr HP ammo the best, while the 9422M prefers the higher cost Winchester Supreme and other brands of higher velocity lighter bullets of 30-33 grains. The Marlin also has the advantage of many more years of me shooting it.Comment

^ oh I didn't mean anything serious
