Technically, you are correct. If two people enter into a transaction of mutual consent, then honestly I admit it is OK. After saying that, it’s a mass produced .22 of all things. Maybe I should have used the term unbelievable, but then again I would be wrong because that is what it actually sold for. To stop digging myself further down I will end it by saying I think it is stupid to pay over a grand for something like that, but if you want it by all means pay that much.

When I posted the link, it was quite a bit lower. I have one just like it that I love. Mine probably has a couple small dents in the stock as it has been used for small game/varmint hunting. There seems to be a demand for the 9422 and 9422M rifles. Mine shoots better than my bolt action .22 Mags.

prices on genuine Winchester, Marlin, Remington, etc. that are no longer made in original factories have skyrocketed

as a collector and recreational shooter of 99% of my guns, I personally have very little to zero interest in a Marlin made by Remington or Ruger, regardless how well it's machined. to me it has no soul or connection to it's history

for someone simply looking for something to shoot regardless of pedigree or historical significance, the market of import and domestic repops and knockoffs is endless and typically cheaper

I don't live on auction sites but I monitor quite a few weekly, the market tends to agree

        good luck!

Not everyone can afford a vintage rifle in excellent condition. For us serfs, modern Marlin, Henry, etc are fine for our needs and gives the owner the ability to own an American made lever rifle.

Winchester just released a new under $500 .22lr lever rifle. It looks to compete with the Henry 001 that has sold over 1 million.

I've been working on some old 1911 projects i haven't touched for years. Found them in a bag while messing around in the shop. Bunch of Caspian parts I'm trying to make pretty, and another one full of 9mm stuff. Not lever or whirleypoppin'!

Has anyone shipped a firearm to a gunsmith lately? From what I have read and heard, UPS and Fed EX no longer ship firearms from a private party to a gunsmith or dealer? Is it true that you now have to ship via an FFL?

I just use usps for long guns. The local post office employees have been very pleasant to deal with, even in the SF Bay Area. That being said I shipped a bunch of barrels and stocks to a guy in Florida and the post office folks there managed to break the box spilling obvious gun parts all over the floor, leading to an uncomfortable conversation with the guy I was shipping to (he eventually got the parts). A guy I bought a few guns from in Illinois did use ship my gun to get them to a FFL here and was happy with the process.

I am thinking about having a Marlin 336 rebored as it has a slight bulge in the barrel. I have been considering .375 Win or .38-55. I would go with .356 Win but brass is extremely hard to find...but it seems the other two choices are also difficult. The gunsmith can chamber it to shoot both .375 and .38-55 which may be the best choice. Another choice would be to simply have the barrel and mag tube shortened as the bulge is right by the muzzle...but that seems to be more involved than reboring the barrel.

I'd think about going 32 WS. I saw some 375 brass available a month or two ago but don't remember where and don't recall seeing it anywhere else before. 38-55 maybe a little easier to find, but... I'm a fan of the 32 for some dumb reason. I also love my 25-35, but that wouldn't work unless you sleeved it, which I don't know if it's possible/feasible?

Damn you. Now I'm looking at a new project, as I have several Marlin 30-30s that I don't REALLY need duplicates of.

Shortening a couple inches (assuming the barrel is 18" or more now) is pretty simple.
I have shortened 18"-20" lever guns down to just over 16", sometimes less with a perm attached muzzle device to get over 16".
