Mojave Lever Crew - Roll Call!

Chris, working on something new. 20ga SxS CZ G2 Bobwhite. Kinda getting my shotgun mojo back again.

Here's my SKB 385 SxS with 20 gauge barrels on it at last years dove opener.

I started the day with 28 gauge barrels on it.
I hit a few and missed a bunch.
I was using: Winchester 5/8 oz. steel (thanks California) #7 @1300 FPS
It worked on the close birds, but seemed to run out of gas as the birds got farther out.
Although it could have just been me not putting a big enough lead on the birds...


Since most of the birds were getting away unscathed, I decided that I needed to up the ante.
So I put the 20 gauge barrels on.
I did much better with the 20, using Kent 7/8 oz. steel #6 @1400 FPS

Thanks Bob, only 20ga. If I handloaded for shotguns, I seriously look at 28ga.
Have a good amount of 20 on hand.

I used some number 5 Steel mid-season and was killing them at good distances.

You should get that lighting if you can..

From what I've read, they aren't very reliable. I've sent Henry a few emails asking them to make one in .357. If they could get one that worked good it would probably be their best selling gun ever.

I think there's a company in Israel that makes one...then again all of my info could be fud.

Ubertti use to have a copy of the Lightning for sale. We had one for about a minute. It was a disaster and even worse after they "fixed" it! When shucking in a new round it would jam in every manner imaginable and even some unimaginable ways. We bought it in November and they replaced it in April with our 1873. In those months it was with us for about two weeks, the rest of the time they had it. They decided to discontinue that model and not to even try and fix it. Kinda a shame cause it was gorgeous and was very accurate but ya couldn't get through a magazine full without it inventing new ways to jam. I guess there is a reason why there are so few pumps out there and a plethora of levers.


I seldom take on repair work as I just don't have time. This rig intrigued me a little though. Made by Andy Anderson, (he made all of Clint's rigs for the Man With No Name flics). The owners father used this for fast draw competition in the 60s. I removed the old billet that had ripped and replaced it and the tie string on the holster.

Navy Arms/Pedersoli 357 Colt Lightning clone. Never had any troubles with it feeding 357 or 38 except for when I tried working the action slowly to avoid chasing the brass.
