Ok, thank you. I've been looking/waiting for EMF Co. to get their Pietta "Paladin" model in, but, it has the smaller Navy grips. Think I'll switch gears and look at the "Gunfighter" series. Thanks again.

When I ordered my Gunfighter in .45 Colt the salesman mistakenly ordered two. When they came in I decided to buy both since I had two lever actions in that caliber.

GB, have you looked at The Standard Manufacturing SAA?
They are a pretty special gun, Colt+ quality at prices that are a little lower than Colt.

I remember seeing a Hickok45 video about the Standard Manufacturing SAA and it looked really nice. He seemed to have been very impressed with the fit and finish and he's pretty knowledgeable about Colt single actions and the various replicas.
They are American made from high grade steel and the company uses the bone and charcoal method of color case hardening. It sounds to me like their intent is to put out a single action revolver that is as good, if not slightly better, than the Colt.
I see from a quick online search that they are readily available from a few different sources so they may be easier to find than a Colt. Also, they cost just about the same as a Colt. I believe they are only available right now in .45 Colt which is fine with me.
Bottom line is that I would not hesitate to add one to my collection.

oh well, better luck next time but this is a dandy original

ANTIQUE COLT SAA .44-40 CALIBER SHORT BARREL REVOLVER MFG. 1887-NO RESERVE
Etched 4 3/4 inch barrel Frontier Six Shooter

Offering for your consideration an antique early Colt "Frontier Six Shooter" Revolver. This .44-40 caliber single action revolver has the very desirable acid etched "COLT FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER" 4 3/4 inch barrel
              <snipped some bs >
The pistol has a great appearance and importantly is mechanically perfect. The revolver is timed perfectly and has all four clicks intact, just as it should. All the visible serial numbers are matching, the barrel has its correct two line address used only on the 4 3/4 inch barrels, and of course the loading gate has its assembly number. By serial number the Colt records indicate it was manufactured in 1887. The bore, as can be seen in the pics, is very nice for an early Colt SAA revolver.

Sorry about the way it turned out. That would have been an excellent addition to any collection. I admire your willingness to spend that much on a vintage Colt. I hesitated at $2,000 for a new 3rd generation but once I did it, it didn't hurt that much at all.

That colt looked to be in pretty good shape and your bid price wasn't crazy high.

Those boxes look to be in great shape.....they cost almost as much as the guns .
I've read/heard of the guns being faked, it seems like the box would be easier..

that's about as far as I would go without personal inspection but with less than 5 years to retirement I can wait until I find one in person

TBH, I like everything I've learned about them. I'll be picking up my Colt on Saturday so I'll look into placing an order for one. They have a nickel plated model that is $100 more than the blued. That's something to consider.

For those in the area, next month on Oct 9, our little pistol club is having its annual OK Corral match at Burro Canyon. One stage you are one of the Earps, the next stage, you are a cowboy. We also do a 3 gun stage - lever guns, double barreled shotguns, Win Model 97s and 87s are preferred but not required. Now, you are welcome to shoot whatever you want, but we encourage cowboy guns for this match. We rent private range 1C and start at 9 AM. The cost is $30 to cover the range rental, pasters and targets. This a fun, not for profit group so everyone is expected to help with set up, pasting and resetting knockdowns and clean up. We start at 9 AM - check in with us at the range and not at the office...no lines with us. We have the range all day, so people often stay after the match to shoot informally. The match is usually over by 1 or 2 PM.

As far as shooting offhand goes, I have a funny story. The first time my buddies and I went to hunt with Jack, a guide who became a good friend, Jack said that he would bet that none of us could hit an 8 inch paper plate offhand at 100 yards. I said I thought I could at least hit the plate. Jack bet me 100 dollars that I would not do it on the first shot. I took him up on it, so he took a blue marker and made a one inch dot in the middle of a paper plate and tacked it to a tree at 100 yards. I took my Rem 700 .300 Mag with old Redfield 5 Star scope, took aim and nicked the dot. (Of course, I declined a double or nothing bet to do it again...) Pure luck of coursel! Jack also thought that none of would get our pig with one shot, and we all did.
