I've carried and extensively shot glocks/m&p's/sigs AND 1911's. I have encountered malfunctions with EVERY gun. Case and point: ALL GUNS HAVE MALFUNCTIONS! If you believe that your gun will never fail then you do not shoot enough to take your skills/tools to the point of failure.
Trouble shoot the problem and become a master of your weapon. If you encounter a weapon failure during a lethal encounter you won't have time to complain about it on calguns. You must fix the issue and carry on.
I would recommend factory ammunition, start there see if that helps. If not, try different magazines. If that doesn't work try a different recoil spring. If none of those solutions resolve the issue call glock. They will fix it or direct you to a person who can. Remeber to shoot often, carry every day (lawfully) and stay safe!Certified Colt 1911 Armorer // Certified Glock Armorer // Certified M&P ArmorerComment

Yeah try different loads and bullet weight if possible... and check out your recoil spring installation make sure the slide is moving back all the way when the gun is empty. I have seen it where the recoil spring can be installed so the slide moves but doesn't go all the way back. For some reason my 17L upper seems more sensitive and prone to recoil spring issues. It is possible for it to bind on stock spring and pretty hard to get an aftermarket one installed not to bind in the front. It has to be installed just so. Just my actual experience with one upper. I'd be inclined to try Glock Store open ended RSA if you want to experiment with spring weights rather than a capped one.
I know everyone always says 9mm Glocks are perfect (except for the CA mag follower issues). Personally I have had more issues shooting 9mm out of Glocks and conversions than any other caliber. .40, .45, 10mm, .357 all just work.Comment

Considering the suggestions and offers that came in, OP's problems are solved: he can either try factory ammo or he can sell it for almost what he paid. Good work CGs, solving the world's problems one distressed OP at a time.Comment

just my experience talking here but i stopped using bulletman loads. i had waaaaay too many FTE due to something or another and too many bad primers. i only buy from freedom now and have had very few issues with their reloads.
that being said, of course a new gun with a new spring and a new shooter will have some problem with shooting. i wouldnt change the spring out, i would go buy factory loads, run about 1000 through it and then go back to your light loads from bulletman (serge). you shouldnt have an issue after that.
if you still dont like the gun, ill take it for $450 shipped to my FFL in sacramento.Comment

NYT- thoughtful gesture to take this hateful gun off the OP's hands, but I already offered $500 and another poster offered $730, less DROS.Comment

Yeah some do have break in periods, and it will vary. When you have a bunch of the same model and the same brand or work at a training facility, gun shop, or range, etc... you see things that you don't see if you own just one and assume everyone else's is exactly the same so if it is NOT working THEY must be doing something screwy. Stuff happens.
I was pretty much convinced that my new Kahr P380 was going to be a headache to break in if I could even get it to function after reading all the posts around CG. I had a lot of time with it before the first few range trips and worked the slide and mags a bit before even shooting it, plus cleaned and lubed it. I also polished the inner feed lips on the mags. It has functioned flawlessly with PMC FMJ and Critical Defense so far - a few hundred rounds. I figured why break it in by firing it working the slide a couple thousand times is free. It is a joy to shoot.
Anyway, back to topic. Just because my P380 worked great the first few trips, doesn't mean yours will. Just cause you love Glocks doesn't mean OP didn't get a lemon, though it could be the reloads

OP, I will be happy to take that POS glock off your hands.I am sooo pissed!
As some of you may habe seen my glock thread asking which one I should buy!
I ended up buying the G17L!
I just took it to the SSZS in barstow.
I took it out loaded the mags with Bulletmans 9mm reloads and it would not cycle them! One or two shots and the casing got stuck every time. I think it is because the loads are not hot enough!
BUT my biggest gripe is that all this hyoe about glocks and my very firrst $730 glock dosnt even work!!!!!!

I have a XD40 and I have shot thousands of bulletmans reloads with out a hickup!
So F&^%K Glock!!!!!!!

Well you guys are very entertaining, I will try all the suggestions:
Clean it.
Factory hot loads.
Break in period.
No limp wrist.
Check all springs.
I will go to the range later this week and report back.
I'm not really wanting to sell as I know from most of your posts that this is an easy fix.
I'm just mad that I did not have to do this for any other gun I have that cost me half the price. I thought the Glocks were the ak's of handguns but now I think they are the ar's of hand guns.sigpic

This sounds more like the ammo's fault rather than the guns
Maybe try a lighter recoil spring if you're dead set on using this ammo?LA CCW:

Understand your frustration. Its really aggravating when you spend good money on a gun that made its mark in the gun world, only to have the one you buy be pinicky. Yup, do all the suggested things, and hope you find the reliability that is due you.Comment

I have seen other G17L specific problem threads where Glock recommended a 147 grain ammo break in since it is the longest slide gun they make and needs more break in than others.
"Ok, here is an update on my new 17L and the stovepipe issue. I spoke personally with Glock personnel today, and they recommended further break-in (another 250 rounds) with heavy 147 grain bullets. Apparently, that is what they use in their testing facility. They indicated the 17L (the longest gun they manufacture) is more likely to require break-in than their other models. Bill at BT Guide Rods told me to completely clean out all the factory lube, re-lubricate and try again." - Glock Forum
