For those, who practice tactical reloads, it's about a couple of seconds while the gun can't be fired. Some consider it's a problem, others don't. Also, there is a lot of unlikely HD/SD scenarios, which come up in such sort of discussions. My personal opinion is if you are not going to any type of pistol war, the mag disconnect doesn't really matter.

However, there is another argument here. It's easier to re-sell non-CA gun.

LCI is just a decoration piece. The only issue with it is sometimes, it doesn't fit some holsters.

Yea lci really isn't that bad. Most of the time people react more negatively to it than I do. I actually had someone in the range call my gun a "***got" gun because of the lci. Very rude and total wtf moment.

FWIW....I just checked my receipts and I paid $560 OTD for my Non Cali Shield....back in July of 2012.

I say you guys have all paid decent prices.

Bottom line, if you're happy with the gun, who cares over a few extra nickels for it???

The lci can be modified and the mag disconnect can be removed.

There is no way I'd pay more for a gun with "CAUTION CAPABLE OF FIRING WITH MAGAZINE REMOVED" in white lettering stamped into it. This imo is worse than the crap on the Cal version.

From all the surveillance videos I have seen, they are over with either just a few shots fired or the shooter runs his gun dry. At that point a disconnect makes no difference because there is no round in the chamber. The S&W disconnect allows the mag to drop free so it doesn't hamper mag changes like the Browning Hipower.

I still think the whole hate for the disconnect (and the LCI which makes absolutely NO functional difference), is merely a bunch of armchair theorists that have nothing to do but sit around and try to imagine unlikely scenarios. Unfortunately all those largely unfounded theories have permeated into the internet gun culture and have assumed a life of their own.

Now it has come to be that someone like the OP has purchased a perfectly functional firearm. One that is very well suited to the use for which it was designed and because of all the internet BS associated with certain features, he has decided that he will very likely never be happy with what he has.

To the OP: Stand up and learn to think for yourself. There is nothing wrong with your new gun. I have been carrying a Cali shield for the last six months and I don't now, and never have, lost a minute of sleep over the LCI and/or the disconect.
                          I disagree.

For starters, I hope that I never actually have to use any of my firearms for self defense. I don't dream about getting in a fire fight and I surely am not looking for one.

The best fight for me is one I can walk away from. Primarily with zero action taken. Just swallow the pride and save lots of headaches, money, potential of injury or even death. While I am confident in my abilities the reality is that no one is so bad butt that they are guaranteed to win every fight.

I think that the magazine safety does a few things. It starts the erosion of the need for people to think for themselves and handle firearms properly. Folks in California will become conditioned to think that if the magazine is out, the firearm is deactivated thus 'safe'. These same people will demonstrate this to their friends by pointing a gun at something they do not intend to destroy and pull the trigger. Eventually it will be a mistake of potentially grave proportions.

While many Calgunners would gasp at such a gross violation of handgun safety, many people either don't know any better or have zero self control. Believe me, there are plenty of idiots out there breeding and voting at the speed of light. If you need proof visit google people of walmart.

It also adds a disadvantage to the end user who under duress is relying on their firearm in a adrenaline filled fight for survival. When every advantage matters having a round in the chamber and the magazine not fully seated removes your ability to fire the weapon. Those few extra precious seconds to reseat the magazine and re-rack the slide could be a crucial.

I personally don't like having to empty a magazine to dry fire my weapon and not being able to pull the trigger without a magazine in it.

The magazine disconnect safety is easy enough to disable that I wouldn't deter anyone from buying an M&P with one.

LOL. I made a few non-CA Shield owners angry here, when I made the very same point I agree, it's a totally ridiculous statement to put on the gun.

                                .

You will only get mentally lazy if you allow yourself to get that way.

As for the whole "what I am going to do in a gunfight" scenario, I prefer not to indulge in useless speculation about protracted gunfights. The famous gunfight at the OK corral lasted about 30 seconds and most of the security footage I have seen show that most incidents are over in less time than that. If you spray out an entire magazine in that short of time, you must be training with the New York City Police Department.

However, it is your money and fantasy so dream on and good luck.
