Shield Dumping

I pick mine up tomorrow. I'm excited! I went to buy an
SD9VE, but saw that they had a shield, which I never had the chance to handle previously.
I love smallish carry sized handguns like the CW9 more than the bigger guns.

Btw, I'm interested in putting
HYDRA shocks in the SHIELD.
But I won't be surprised if they mess up my gun from the inside out.
I probably won't even figure it out til it's too late.

I carry my Shield 99% of the time. It's light, accurate, fun to shoot (subjective), has a large aftermarket following, and relatively easy to maintain. It's a great gun for what is it designed to be (CCW).

The other 1% goes to a Glock 19 during the colder months.

As an FYI, on my 2nd range trip with my Shield, I did a test of all the HP ammo I had on hand: Hornady Critical Defense, Remington Golden Saber & Express Pistol, Winchester Ranger, and Federal Hydra-shok. I am always leery of the 1 box of Hydra-shoks I have ever since it misfed in my trusty Sig. Well, it also misfed in the Shield as well. Loaded the mag, racked the slide, 1st round went fine, but wouldn't go into battery for the 2nd round as the front of the bullet edge was hung up on the feed ramp. The edges of the bullet are so rough, it actually made a mark on my feed ramp!! Of course everything else went bang without any hiccups.

It could be a bad box, but seriously am not a fan of Federal Hydra Shok ammo. Now, gotta go smooth out the feed ramp

But good to know! I already know mine will likely shoot cheap ball ammo
for its entire life.

It'll be less of a conceal or home defense gun, and more of a
lightweight secondary.

The funny things is that people in Virginia were selling them for $700 a year ago. Then the XDS was the new hot thing and Shields are all over the place.

I think that it is rather silly to expect the trigger on a CCW gun to feel like a range gun. If you look at the security camera videos of actual self defense use of handguns, you will see that it a draw and pull the trigger type of deal. It's not a movie, you aren't going to have the time to line up the shot for perfect placement.

I prefer the trigger on my Shield over a lighter, more target oriented one. I carry every day and I very much appreciate the slim grip and slide of the Shield, along with the shorter grip the seven round magazine gives the gun.

These little guns are a carry piece, pure and simple. Range drills should involve drawing the weapon and shooting a couple shots. This type of practice gets boring after a short while and tiring after a long while. Anyone that thinks a Shield is going to be a target gun for a fun day at the range is smoking crack.

I can easily put seven rounds in the ten ring at 7 yards and that is plenty good enough for me.

I've never seen it construed as the Holy Grail... it's cheap, it's reliable, it's concealable and it shoots as good as any comparable pistol.

While I agree there are other considerations, I'm not sure what gun outperforms in all categories mentioned above.

I chose the fatty G26 over the Shield, but mostly because I already shoot Glocks and have legal hi caps that fit in it.

Some folks dump their Shields simply because the Shields were not available at the range. So the only way to know is to purchase and test drive them. They end up not liking them and therefore dump them.

I bought my Shield just out of curiosity and after a few range trips, I like it. It is a keeper!

I think that accounts for a lot of it. Especially since there is very little financial risk in having to resell it. Any loss is likely less that the price of renting one a couple times IF there was one available to try out.

My Shield 9 is for sale because my IA changed their policy and are not allowing SSE handguns on the permit. The off roster will be replaced by an on roster Shield. It's a great gun for CCW.

I believe the Shield was (is) over-hyped. It may be "good", but, so are alot of other guns. I just don't see what this gun brings to the table to make it the Holy Grail some folks think it is?

Ill tell you why it's the holy grail, because dumb ***** Glock made the 42 a stinking .380. Glock helped sell a lot of M&P Shields.

Mine is a smooth operator due to polished rails and a good coating of Slip 2000 EWG. It's not much different to shoot than my full sized, all steel Browning BDM. The price is right, S&W quality and support and it's going to be one of few options available come July. When SSE is outlawed later this year it will be even more popular.

People often buy the newest thing, only to sell it off once "The Thrill is Gone". I see that with musical instruments all the time.

I'd love a Sig 938, but $700+ makes the Shield my option #1. Only the trigger truly sucks, looks like Apex is the next mod.

I was going to buy a XDS/Shield/Sig P938/Walther PPS, but after handling the XDS, Shield, and P938, decided it wasn't for me.

IMHO it needs the extended 8 round mags to be comfortable, but at 8 rounds, grip is the same length as the PPQ that I'm currently CCWing, and the Sig P220 Carry Elite, and HK P30.

Although I may still consider the PPS... it's the only one I haven't handled, and the trigger is supposedly better than the XDS/Shield/P938... we'll see...

I'm in the same boat. Really wanted a small revolver but it didn't work out. Tried about 6 or 7 diff small single stack 9mm and the PPS eluded me as well. Long story short I ended up with the Nano, largely b/c of it's small size. Only thing I wish was different was a lower bore axis (although somehow this is 1 of the few guns I've tried where high bore axis hasn't been as big of an issue) and shorter reset on the trigger, like how the PPQ is, although granted it doesn't need to be as light or as short.

Still want to see/try the PPS though.

Don't view the 8 rounds for comfort thing the same though, picking something this small I'm looking for maximum concealment, not for comfort. Then carry the 8 rounder as a spare if you still have space.

Also this. A lot of fence sitters probably got worked into the whole "oh wow I must buy a gun" mode b/c of hype and jumped onto the shield when they saw .380, only to realize that no new niche/purpose was filled by either of these or that they should have tried more than 2 guns.

What if it was acquired via PPT? Or you chose a pistol purchased prior to the roster?

There was a long thread about this recently. conclusion was, it's only 1 IA (so far) that did this, and only applied to SSE'd guns. All subject to IA & DOJ whims.
