Probably already mentioned, but I'm betting a bunch of people got caught up in the CCW craze. But since San Diego and LA aren't issuing yet (if ever) people are having buyers remorse for a gun they can't carry and is not as comfortable to shoot as a full size.
The complaints about the trigger are moot in my opinion. It's a carry gun, not a race gun. The last thing you'll be thinking about if you ever need to use it is the trigger. Polish the surfaces a bit if you feel the need.Comment

People are spoiled.not to discount anyones reason for liking or disliking a gun... but...
what trigger expectation is there of a sub-compact weapon designed for concealed carry/self defense?...
It's not a target gun, not a competition shooter... and even though I've never had to draw a weapon to defend my life, I'm positive the trivial trigger attributes would not be a consideration (with any pistol) if I had to use it to thwart an assailant...Comment

The trigger on mine is good, fine, would not change it. I know how to work on it, but I am not going to mess with it. It is not as light as my modified Glock but it is good. Yes people are spoiled. You pull the trigger fast or slow and it breaks without moving the sights off target in the slightest... trigger control on the stock Shield is easy as pie. There's nothing wrong with it. Do they vary a lot? Maybe, but I doubt it.Comment

Side profile silhouette isn't what's important or significant. I bet you didn't look at the difference in width. That's where things matter the most for pistols designed for CCW. Thinner means closer to the body, hence less printing and more concealed under clothing.Comment

There was a lot of hype, no doubt. At first it was all because of reports of its greatly improved trigger compared to the other M&P variants. Then, there was the lure of unobtainium because it was off-roster. By the time the CA version was announced the market was already primed to want it (note, "want" not "need"). What was a pistol designed specifically for CCW became a legend among wonder pistols.
Then, Peruta came about which added more fuel to the fire. The dumping you are seeing now is most likely due to the number of people who bought the hype, then realizing it really is just a very good CCW weapon and little else. Meaning they realize it's not as fun as a range toy like their full-sized or compact pistols, and they really don't have a need for CCW. The other factor is how long the wait is now to get a permit.Comment

I'm able to conceal my PPQ in shorts & a tshirt in a Nightingale Raptor IWB. The 0.35" width diff is not that big of a deal for me.

When I shoot my M&P9c, it's exactly what you describe... my pinky curls under the shorter grip, no problem. Not sure why people cry about short grips so much.
What is interesting when you compare the Shield to M&P9c though... the Shield with 7-round mag is actually a bit longer in the the grip than the M&P9c with its flat baseplate mag... my hands are small enough, in fact, that my pinky can just barely make it onto the grip of the Shield with flat baseplate if I really wanted, but curling it under is a little more comfortable.
Obviously, the Shield is a lot thinner, and sports a shorter barrel.
It's not surprising we are seeing a lot of remorse sales in the used market though... these guns were moving mostly on impulse, given the CA-compliant models just hit our market finally, and in the potential change in landscape with Peruta.SCC CCW *326 Days, $1051.29*

I'd be interested in getting 9mm Shield if it was a smoking deal to good to pass up. I see no need in getting one anytime soon.
My Kahr PM9 is my EDC and a Glock 26 is my backup or winter season EDC.
I'm extremely happy with the PM9 with its size, reliability and quality. I'm kind of tempted to put a Kahr K9 I just got to put on my permit instead of the G26.Comment

I think this is what throws some people off with designs suited for concealed carry...
thin is better concealed and also more comfortable to carry... many people are accustom to pistols that fill their hand better and therefor have better shoot-ability... for CC, carry comfort is far more important that shooting comfort."Kamala is a radical leftist lunatic" ~ Donald J. TrumpComment
