    Shield Dumping

Seeing a lot of people dumping their Shields (CA and free state version) in the marketplace. Is their something I don't know.

Was looking to pick one up to see what the hype was about. Couldn't get'em here fast enough when they came out...

OC Armory has it in stock. Go handle/fondle it before you buy it.

I was going to buy a XDS/Shield/Sig P938/Walther PPS, but after handling the XDS, Shield, and P938, decided it wasn't for me.

    Trigger is heavy
    Pinky has nowhere to go
It's not THAT much smaller than my PPQ.

    but to each their own.

IMHO it needs the extended 8 round mags to be comfortable, but at 8 rounds, grip is the same length as the PPQ that I'm currently CCWing, and the Sig P220 Carry Elite, and HK P30.

Although I may still consider the PPS... it's the only one I haven't handled, and the trigger is supposedly better than the XDS/Shield/P938... we'll see...

I'm guessing people got so hyped up that the gun could not live up their expectations, no matter how good it is. It's a conceal gun, not a fullsize, fit your hand like a glove comfortable shooter.

Maybe some people figured out it isn't a game changer and just another slim 9? I didn't have a slim 9 so I am pleased with it.

For me, the pinky is supposed to curl underneath - the grip is the part that makes it hard to conceal a gun. I bought extra 7 rounders, not the 8's. The Shield really isn't that small from a profile view, but it is thin in the grip. If I lay my old Millenium PT111 over it or under it it appears it is either a tie or the PT111 is smaller (and the Millenium is about as slim as you can get with a double stack ten round mag. (I don't know why Glock can't slim down their mags in the subcompacts by getting rid of the plastic around the mag - Glock 26). Size wise the Taurus is great and it can double strike with the DAO. But the Shield is noticeably thinner and the long trigger pull and long reset on the PT111 are its downside

Anyway, I think the trigger is good on the Shield. Probably perfect for carry and great short reset. It is also fairly easy to work on if you are handy and don't want to wait for it to smooth out. Mine seems fine. If anything I will disable the mag safety and call it good.

It has a particular purpose ... concealed carry. if you buy it as a range gun you might be disappointed.

If I had a permit and were carrying mine, I'd use the 7 rounder (with no pinky space) to carry it, but have the 8 rounder as the spare pocket mag. If I ever needed it, I'm sure the missing pinky space would not upset me.

I just wanted one, I got the non-CA model the DAY before the CA model flood started. Which is funny because when I had picked it up, my FFL was saying "It's so weird, the CA model is supposed to be available, but it's not even on their website as available yet. It's frustrating" then the next day, 20 posts pop up on CG about the new CA models in stores!

I think I'll buy a few extra 8s actually. It's more comfortable to shoot and IMHO the 7 rounder is fine but mostly used when the gun is concealed. Once the gun is out of the holster, it doesn't matter but that extra round in your spare mag might. I think in a pocket or mag pouch the longer mag (stored vertically on your belt/pocket) wouldn't matter as much?

Exactly. A lot of people will find that with with the heavier trigger and smaller frame/grip/sight radius that they can't shoot the same size groups at 15 yds as their full size in their first trip to the range. Couple this with the Peruta decision, people in some counties bought in anticipation of a favorable ruling and now it is it being drawn out in the courts.

I'm still looking at the Walther PPS...although not as urgently as I was before, I'd prob buy that before the Shield... but currently I can conceal my PPQ just fine... so I'm not too serious about my search... I MAY try a Sig P938 for a true pocket carry at some point for the "dressy" days that I can't IWB...

It's still a good gun though! With some practice, the groups will shrink.

I never expected it to shoot or feel as nice as my CZ-75 SA (not much compares, IMHO) but I am easily influenced and gullible, so I bought one.

I like the fit even with the flush 7 round magazine. I personally like the off roster version better but paying %25 markup to SSE it just isn't worth it in my opinion. I'm OK with the CA version

Can't knock you for that - I did the same when I bought my XDS. Fact is there are adjustments to be made with subcompacts when you mostly shoot full size pistols; grip, trigger control, muzzle flip, etc. I don't look at it as a range toy; it's not "fun" to put a couple of hundred rounds through per session like some of my other guns (my wife refers to the XDS as "The little B*tch" ) but with some practice I've been able to get good accuracy out of it and it serves its purpose as a carry gun.

Yeah. I had a G27 and couldn't get used to the pinky under the magwell. If you add a plus one extension, it then becomes the same size as a G23. And I'd rather just shoot that.

I want a PPQ so bad, but waiting for a PPT to come along. The same with a G19 Gen4. Once my list is filled, I'll start looking at sub-compacts more indepth.

A lot of people bought the hype and found it's not a fun range gun (not supposed to be).

A lot of people can't handle the size (I like the 2 finger grip on my Glock 26 & 27 so the Shield size if fine).

Unfortunately a lot of people bought them to flip and are finding they can't get the $800 they were sure everyone would pay

It's 1st on my wish list as soon as some money frees up.

The Shield is for CCW. Period.

CG goes through flavor of the week phases all the time. Remember when everyone unloaded their POS Stag ARs? CMMGs? Their CZs? All the M&Ps? Soon you'll see lots of guys start to unload all of their LOADS of ammo.
