so for those that keep it with them, what do you do when you leave home? lock 'em up in safe and then pull them out again when you get home?

i'm thinking of putting my USP next to me in bed, but i don't like leaving it out (of safe) when i'm not home in case of a burglary.

          Shotgun under the bed.

Not that I have any pretension of using it for defense or anything. I live in a great neighborhood. But I figured, why not?

Bolt a holster to your side bed frame. Holster the gun when sleeping and lock it up when you leave during the day. I do full mag, empty chamber.

While the idea of a bedside gun makes sense to me, I am not comfortable stashing guns in every room of the house. Seems a little convenient for the burglar, doesn't it?

Keeping one in a state of readiness is fine, but you probably ought to be in control of it at all times, either having it under your direct control (i.e. on you or within arm's reach), or having it locked up. In bad neighborhoods, you are usually much more at risk of being burglarized than attacked, especially if the bad guys suspect that you may be armed.

To those of you who keep one loaded by your beds, please lock it up when you leave home. Better yet, if you have a ccw permit, take it with you. Safes - or small lock boxes - are as important as ammo and holsters if you are going to keep a firearm in your home.

++++1000000000 this is what we do in our house, if I leave after the wife she locks it up. But it is always handy.

Thieves are the lowest form of life out there, except for liberal politicians, of course, but that's redundant.

Safe is 3 ft from my bed... touchpad combo can be opened in seconds. Loaded mag, not chambered.

                    Decent neighborhood.

As for reason, do I need a reason?

during the day it's on my hip, at night it's on the nightstand. on the rare occasions I don't have it with me it's locked up in a safe in the nightstand. Heck there may be a few more hidden around the house in safe boxes????
I live in a rural area and the problems up here tend to be of the 4 legged kind. But we had cop killer hiding out around my place a few years back. He stole the rifle out of the patrol car. So to all you gungrabbers reading this......thats why I need 30 rnd mags for my rifle. ( owned before 2000 thank god)

He did see me and he's probably just as scared/confused like me that moment and he waved at me like asking me to let him in "nuts", I ran to the hallway at the same time calling 911 to grab my baseball bat and it was'nt there so went straight to the kitchen, that's when I saw a police car from the kitchen window. It was meant to be that day, I banged my window as hard as I can to get her attention and it worked. She got out of the patrol car and I hauled *** towards her and she asked me if I saw this bla, bla, bla guy and I told her about it.We both went to my backyard and the dude was handcuffed about 100 yards away from my fence. He ran across the school ground and that's how they spotted him, he was wearing a red t-shirt and blue jeans.....

Absolutely. Glock 30 sits in my dresser drawer next to my bed with a loaded magzine, but NOT chambered. G30 has night sights and a Streamlight TLR-2. Under my bed sits a Mossberg 500 loaded, again not chambered. It's locked in a gun case, but it would only take me about 10 seconds to get it unlocked and ready to roll. If I had time I would go for the Mossy, if not the G30 will do. Ideally, if needed, I could hand my wife the G30 and set up the Mossy for myself.

Personally, I think the whole point of having HD guns is for when your sleeping. There's a lesser chance of someone inviting themselves into your home in the middle of the day. Most of the stories you hear in American Rifleman magazine is of home invasions during night time. IMHO, I think it's imperative that you have a gun "handy" while your sleeping. You'll be groggy as it is, you don't really need to try to figure out where your HD gun is. It should be the same place every night.
