in a gun vault, I have three ready to go. under the bed, 12ga. full mag, pump in rear position.

also since i'm visually impaired i hang my glasses from the shade of the lamp and have my very bright LED flashlight on nightstand. flashlight also has red & green modes which are nice in the bedroom for me to see without blinding myself

Can you just imagine the time and expense of trying to prove self-defense or even having to deal with the court system in California? I deal with lawyers and the courts a lot in my line of work, and let me tell you that it just isn't worth the hassle.

i keep my colt combat commader magazine in but not chambered in a holster attached to bed

Many years ago, while living in various travel trailers in campgrounds, I got into the habit of sleeping in "street clothes." This was due to the neighbors' habit of coming to me at all hours to assist them with a broken water hose or a blown fuse or a rattle snake that found its way into a coach, or whatever. I still sleep in street clothes today.

Next to my bed is my Glock 27 with LaserMax, loaded with hollow points and one in the chamber, two additional magazines next to the gun. I sleep in denim "jeans" shorts and a T-shirt so that I can slip on some shoes and go outside in an instant in pseudo-street clothing (California casual). It also gives me a good pocket for the two extra magazines, and the jeans waistband allows for immediate and secure firearm stow if necessary.

Pajamas are not generally suited for tucking a gun into the waistband and if it is chilly outside and you're in PJ's and the cops want you to stand out there and talk to them, you won't enjoy it. If you have to hop into your truck to race a wounded neighbor to the hospital emergency room, you don't want to do that in pajamas! The neighbors don't need to see me in PJs either.

I keep a jacket hanging nearby with my house and truck keys and wallet inside and the cell phone is a quick grab, so in the event of something serious, I can grab the gun, the mags, the phone and the jacket, slip on some shoes and be out the door (locking it behind me) in about 10 to 15 seconds if necessary, ready to run to a neighbor's aid or hop into my truck to chase down a low life.

In the truck I keep rope and a selection of long zip-ties. They are terrific for cuffing someone in a pinch. The BIG, THICK zip ties can go around someone's ankles and effectively prevent them from running away. You can also zip-tie some deadbeat to a light pole with them, by placing the tie around his neck and the pole, and zip-tie his thumbs together behind the pole. this will hold him securely, until you return for him ... several days later, if the mood strikes you ... or not.

Also, you left no choice for loaded six-guns. There is no mag and it ain't cocked.

I think it's unnecessary for me to have my guns loaded next to my bed. I know we live in a free country and can have a loaded gun in the house, but come on guys. This makes me feel like I living in the war zone again. This is USA; it's the safest country in the world not to mention we are in CA.

Besides, do you know how much it costs to shoot someone even though it's a self defense case? And the hassle you have to deal in court? I would like the PD deal with all this drama.
