GLOCK 19 Questions

My old Gen 2 Glock 19 Served me very well. Bought it used on Gunbroker.com. Ran it through several courses including the Front Sight 4 Day Handgun and 3 different Stone Cobra Tactical Courses including their Tactical Pistol I and Carbine I & II. In the carbine courses your handgun is your backup and you use it often. If your magazine runs dry in the rifle you transition to your handgun until your "buddy" says he can cover you while you clear. That could take a while if he is moving to cover and not immediately in a position to cover you while you reload your primary.

I realize it is too late to address the original question, and congratulations on the G19 purchase. If you are carrying a P226 as a primary (duty weapon) and were looking for a back up piece, I would have highly recommended sticking with a Sig for the back up. Having the same ergonomics are going to be huge if you ever get into a high stress situation were you have to go to it... Beyond that, you can never have too much ammo.

With the deed done, you could keep with this philosophy and get yourself a G22 to carry as primary.

Your points are well taken and I wrestled with the points you made about same ergos for a while. But I no longer have to carry my SIG as a duty weapon and the G19 will not be used as a carry back up. When I was in, I actually switched off between my P226 and a G17 so I'm pretty comfortable with both set ups. Plus, I just really fell in love with the G19 after the first trigger pull. Strange, cuz I really didn't care for my G17 (which I gave to my Iraqi counterpart). I just had to have a G19. Thanks.

TruGlo TFOs are bright, but they are also pretty big. The really shine outdoors.

Those Truglos are sweet! I would have put those on, but the G19 I got from Riflegear comes with factory installed Mepros- which I hear are pretty good.

No, none of the Glock's come with color fill lettering. It's just something people do.

As to the Mepro's, yes, very good sights. You will like them.

Hi all-- 10 days wait and I finally picked her up-- put 300 rounds through her today. Shoots beautifully-- love everything about it. Fits my mitts perfectly and it's like I've been shooting it forever. Great companion to my P226 as a back-up. Glock factory night sights included and I dropped in a stainless steel guide-rod with factory weight spring. Gives the nose nice balance compared to the stock plastic guide-rod IMO. Like I've mentioned earlier, I've had excellent luck with the Glock 23, 19 and 17. I've owned them in that order. Never had a single issue. Very reliable, very fun, very easy to use. Nice simple design that gets out of the shooters way. Probably will pick up a 26 baby Glock sometime soon for CCW. Never felt the need to upgrade the guide rod. The plastic one works fine. Never failed, and I have massive round counts on my guns before I part with them.

Yeah-- I'm sure the plastic rod is fine. But IMO, it shoots better with the SS rod. I put 100 rounds through with the plastic- felt/shot fine. Then put in another 100 after swapping out for the SS rod and the gun was perfect to me-- less jumpy, smoother. I like having that added bit of weight in the nose-- YMMV. Great gun- love its simplicity and its so fun to shoot. Funny, cuz I did not like the G17 I had. Anyhoo, I guess I'm a Glock fanboy now.

Next you need a 1911, then a CZ, then an HK...you can be a fanboy of them all!

Brand loyalty aside, when you find something that works well for you it's alright to enjoy the heck out of it even if you never thought you would.

I picked up a Kimber Custom II 45ACP entry level (for a Kimber) 1911 recently and have gotten more into it than I thought I would. I still love my Glock, but the 1911 has been really impressive. Not sure if my next gun will be a Glock 26 or a officer size 1911. Need something as compact as possible for summer CCW in a defensive round and it turns out I'm now a fanboy of both Glocks and 1911s.

I never really noticed a change in how my G23 handled when I put a stainless guide rod in it. But whats important is that you feel things are perfect now.

Maybe I'll catch you at another training class here soon and we'll have a good time.
