It depends on the firearm, but it sometimes can be simple. It might require a replacement part, but it can be converted back.

      is this sgun conversion

I have heard that single shot excemption involves a coversion so it has to be registered with the ATF under the buyers namd and that involves the 07 dealer to logonto the ATF SITE AND GET A NEW SERIAL NUMBER AND THEN REGISTER ON THE BUYERS NAME. IS THIS TRUE?

No, it is not true. As long as the firearm is a complete working firearm and only parts are replaced, with no milling or machining, a 01FFL can do it (as well as non-FFLs).

Just FYI since I see it in the original post, I have been in contact with Toby Walker from STI about bringing an off-roster 1911 (specifically a Spartan 9mm) into a California dealer. All STI needs is for the dealer to register a dealer account with them and they'll ship the gun, even when I specifically told Toby I'm in California and my FFL is also... The only problem was that they won't have inventory to send until January which, if the Governor does nothing with the proposed regulations, I won't be able to transfer it via SSE...

@ mobetter - OC Firearms in Fountain Valley does SSE and is an 07 FFL. Steve the shop owner is extremely busy these days because he is a heck of a nice guy, and has great pricing. Look him up...

SSE is still an option...for now. See here and here (while you're there, sign up for their e-mail lists and donate if you can). But, see also Gov. Brown's veto message, which reads, in pertinent part (emphasis added):

            ...
AB 169 would close a loophole in the single-shot exemption. That makes sense.
            ...
            Sincerely,
            /Edmund G. Brown Jr./
That is as big an invitation as there ever was for pro-tyranny lawmakers to try again as soon as they can. Looks like Gov. Brown is not our friend....

Regarding STI: this is news to me. They have always been adamantly against our gun purchasing interests.

so basically as i understand it, your going to basically buy which ever off roster handgun your wanting to purchase just as you would any other on roster handgun. then have the gun shipped to your ffl that will be doing the sse, they will convert it then you will dros it and wait.

Any one know a shop that will ship a SSE p938 to an ffl in the sierras?

Kinda deep in the sticks so the bay area or Sacramento is out of the question to travel to.

For the IE/PS area, CWS Tactical in Highland will do SSE's. They are at 7750 Palm Ave. Ste. F . in Highland CA 92346. I've done several SSE's and single action's there.

For those of you finding these new shops doing conversions, if you could PM me their contact info or websites, it would be helpful. Even better if they have staff who are Calguns members. It works a bit better than random cold call/e-mails just to verify some information, which they often times won't give me anyway.

                            Thanks everyone.

CWS... Cold War Shooters? I had no idea they were even back in business.

                              Thanks for the info.
