I'm hearing RUMORS that when you have an SSE done that you actually have to keep the extended barrel and mag block rather than return them to the smith. Is this true?

        NO.

Once you own the gun you may modify it any way you want so long as no other laws are violated.
        Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

Big thanks to "Cyc Wid It" for sharing the knowledge. When I went to the web to find resources on the process, I found this thread most helpful. Just got my HK, and I was so impressed with the CS, I wanted to give some good PR to these professionals:

My HK45 arrived on or before the date estimated by each party. I was informed (emailed) at each step of the process. Costs were in line with my expectations. Out-freaking-standing!

Being new to the SSE process, I thought it would be a nightmare of procedures and costs. Simply put, it was not (well, let's remember we are talking handguns and California here...a certain level of BS is mandatory). I would encourage anyone that is sitting on the fence about purchasing in this manner to not be discouraged.

so when you do a SSE through an FFL you would have to buy another barrel if the length is not a minimum of 6 inches? So for a HK45, I'd have to pay another $500 or so for a new barrel, the FFL installs the mag block plus whatever fees they charge for the service? But for a Desert Eagle .50, for example, since the barrel is 6 inches, the FFL would not need to swap it out? just do the mag block?

Why? They don't throw away the original barrels.

Call the shop and see if they can do your pistol. Most shops can accommodate, 1911s, glocks, XDms and common stuff but if its something more high end, I'd definitely call em to make sure they have the parts to do it. You shouldn't be buying any parts yourself...

No, in fact the user who posted this used one of the best OOS FFL's we have doing SSE conversions for us.

Ryan @ Table Rock has what is needed to do HK45's. If you are really interested in getting one give him a call and he will walk you through the whole process.

As for DE50 it would depend on the OAL. Go back to the OP an read it again. It tells you everything that needs to be done to meet the SSE.

Cyc Wid It - would it be possible to update MParms, SSE capacity. I was at his shop the other day and he mention how much more he is able to SSE versus what is mentioned in the first page.

A link to his SSE page: http://www.mparms.com/Single-Shot-Exemptions_ep_67.html

Funny, I just DROS'ed a Glock from him last week and he didn't mention anything. I guess I'll check in with him again when I pick up...

                            SSE Sig 516 Pistol?

Is it possible to SSE the SIG 516 AR pistol (w/arm brace)? And how?

Yep...find one and get it delivered to the closest FFL on the SSE list. The brace is an after sale accessory.

Has anybody done a Springfield armory EMP .40? Would I be correct in assuming the barrel and link are the same as other 1911 pattern pistols? For that matter does it matter what caliber barrel is used for the SSE process? Thanks, Bob
