It seems Winchester is the only one with ammunition that is up to the original 10mm loading with their Silvertip. Last time I clock some Silvertips out of my 7" Javelina it was around 1300 fps, this was many years ago. I wonder if it's still the same? The wise man said just find your place

I stick to .45acp because its "plentiful" compared to 10mm, has a great punch, penetration is superb, and manstopping is what it is intended for. I like the 10mm in theory, and as a stopping gun, I think its fantastic, but just not feasible for me to shoot regularly. I already have a 9mm and a .45, and a .44mag for the big boys. I just don't think i'd go replacing my .45's for a cartridge that will one day be obsolete except by the holdouts hanging onto it. I think it is a fad that will last another 10-15 years by those who are fanboys for it but thats about it. Again, not knocking it but it never truly replaced anything by any means.Comment

Double Tap and Cor-Bon (sp?) both make full power and even higher loads for the 10mm.OCSD Approved CCW Instructor

It will not become obsolete, however, it may become unpopular. However, it's becoming more popular lately because people are seeing that it's an all around good round for everything. Very versatile, and fits any job with just a swap of the round. The .45 is great for what it was, but it can't fill the shoes of the 10mm.I stick to .45acp because its "plentiful" compared to 10mm, has a great punch, penetration is superb, and manstopping is what it is intended for. True, no round is truly obsolete if it still fulfills its purpose but it will only dig its own grave by becoming harder and harder to find ammo for, Being very pricy brass and components unless you're casting lead, and slowly the brass will stop being made with the exception of the custom guys and they're going to charge a premium. That won't hinder that its a very effective round for particular circumstances, just make it far less cost effective in my eyes hence, obsolete. I refuse to pay a huge premium for a niche productComment

And someone's gotta come up with the 9mm vs .45 vs 10mm vs. .357 chart for gelatin somewhere.Comment

It's not a niche if it serves all purposes. Now, if the round was ONLY good for shooting one thing, then it would be a niche round. However, it's so versatile, it's really not a niche round, just a rare one. There are too many agencies using 10mm for it to just go away. Also, as I've stated before, it's becoming more popular again.True, no round is truly obsolete if it still fulfills its purpose but it will only dig its own grave by becoming harder and harder to find ammo for, Being very pricy brass and components unless you're casting lead, and slowly the brass will stop being made with the exception of the custom guys and they're going to charge a premium. There is a gel test, and the FBI has done tons of testing. All in all, the 10mm is top dog when it comes to a reasonable semi-auto. Glock 20 with 15 rounds of 10mm, or Glock 17 with 17 rounds of 9mm. Give me the 10mm anyday.OCSD Approved CCW Instructor

Yeah, i'm talking about the balistics chart that shows all the rounds. It always seems to come up in the pro 10mm round threads. Don't get me wrong here, I actually LIKE the 10mm but I don't see myself switching out all of my other guns for the 10 because of cost effectiveness and not enough of a difference to make it worthwhile. It serves MOST purposes quite well but we each have our round preferences. I still prefer .45 as a big 230gr gob of copper and lead being slung at a BG rather than a smoking fast 180gr round that'll go clear through him. Just a preference. I understand the arguments for and against but as far as track record goes, I personally go .45 for HD purposes. I use my .44mag for bear gun. I can get a 240gr bullet slinging out of a 7.5" barrel at 1350fps and some ungodly ft. lbs. I try to use the right tool for the job but I am fond of the 10mm as well.Comment

I don't try and convert anyone, and like you said, you have different guns in different calibers for different situations. This is what I'm saying is the reason for the 10mm. I can load up 200gr or higher and shoot it at 1050fps or slower/faster if I like. This gives you the same result as the .45. On the other hand. I can shoot a 180gr or less/more at over 1300 fps, which comes close to a .44 Magnum. So, out of the same gun, using the same caliber, I can fulfill several duties just by changing what ammo I'm shooting.Yeah, i'm talking about the balistics chart that shows all the rounds. Right now in my 10mm, I'm shooting JHP which are 180gr I believe and run 1050fps. The idea is not to over penetrate with a hot round. I also have some lite loads I bought from a reloader that I use when shooting competitions. I can also grab some full powered or +p stuff and take the gun along in the woods and know very well I can put down anything I come across in North America.
So, this is the greatness of the 10mm. It's versatility. Definitely it's easier to get 9mm rounds, and I have a 9mm which I love and shoot more often. However, it's the 10mm I choose first and foremost when defending my life and that of my families.OCSD Approved CCW Instructor

Starline prices are the same for .45 and 10mm brass. Companies haven't figured out a way to know whether you're using the bullets for .40 or 10mm so the prices are the same
. I don't see the 10mm ever becoming super popular. I also don't see your death spiral happening either.

Colt brought back the Delta, why in the hell would they do that?

Because it's an awesome handgun, and if you've ever shot one you'd know it..
I initially wanted one, but the price kept me away. I was going to get a Kimber, but I'm not a fan of silver guns, and I heard a lot of bad news over their MIM parts. So, I settled on a Glock that I was really worried about because I hated them. Well, now I love them just as much as the 1911..

All you guys who say the 10mm is too expensive to shoot, obviously don't reload. If you do, then it costs about the same to shoot as compared to .45ACP and .40S&W. Reload and you'll be able to better appreciate the 10mm cartridge - or shoot more of your favorite caliber today.
