If you scratch it a little deeper you can call it custom machining and charge a premium for it.

Just do what everybody looking to sell a 1911 with an idiot mark does. Tell anyone who asks " the previous owner" did that.

If you don't want to sell your 1911 then who care about the dummy scratch.

The Kimber 9mm Target is good out of the box. I've had problems with the only 2 Springfields that I've tried. One compact 45 and an M1A.
I know those are completely different guns. Both didn't run right when new and even after breaking in. Ended up selling both. Really wanna give Springfield a chance. I like that they don't have the other safety. I hear they have great customer service but never gave that a chance. But from what I read, it's hit and miss with Springfield.

I Had a pretty noticeable idiot scratch on a Springfield armory stainless 1911 I purchased used.
Used Scotch bright (brite) pad and took about 80-90% out with just 2 hours of time. Light to medium pressure, stroke one direction along the grain of the frame- start at muzzle and move towards hammer end.
Start with no pressure then apply pressure gradually as you move, then let up pressure before you stop. Move in strokes, not back and forth movements
                        No swirls.
Avoid steel wool unless it is "stainless" steel wool. Regular steel wool will supposedly leave metal deposits, like galled areas in the frame that will rust.

It cost me less than $6 for the Scotch pad from a car paint supply place, and I used less than 1/4 of it.

Do not polish the frame unless you do the entire "flat" area, SA uses a brushed finish on the flats. Flitz is a polish.

Get some 0000 steel wool and rub it out, take one of those grips and try the steel wool out.
