lol, I'm aware that it's a very small cosmetic issue. Just wanted to see if there is anything I can try, other than having the entire 1911 refinished bc that's not going to happen.

It's stainless... You should be able to remove it lighten the scratch with steel wool.

Maybe go over it with the grain with some Mother's or Flitz.
But it's probably too deep for that.

You are correct, already tried Flitz, still there. The pic doesn't show the scratch very good but it's nothing I can't live with. I want to fix it a lot more bc I've made fun of some of my range buddies for the idiot scratch and now I have one

YouTube is your friend. Make sure to go with the grain, it will clean up.
I have a SA TRP that came from the factory with the idiot scratch not only on the frame, but across the slide as well. Most of it was easy to fix.

Scratch on the frame = Idiot Scratch
Scratch on the slide = Should not ever handle a gun worth more than $500

It happens. But it's stainless so you can sand it out. Buy yourself a grey 3M Scuff Pad. If its real deep you might need to start off with some fine sand paper. Just make sure you go in the same direction as the finish grain that they put on the frame.

It's a tool, don't sweat it. Do you care about scratches on your wrenches or screwdrivers? If you do, then some 1000 grit or finer will work. Just remember to go slow. Good luck.

Was cleaning a few handguns that I shot this weekend. Managed the put the famous idiot scratch on my 1911! It was the last gun b/c I wanted to take my time with it. Unfortunately I was on auto-pilot by now and just doing the same routine on each gun while music playing in the background. Any remedy to this that you guys can recommend?

Nevermind the scratch. How does the gun shoot? Did it run reliably straight out of the box? I've been eyeing that same gun and was wondering how they are new? The Kimber 9mm Target is good out of the box. I've had problems with the only 2 Springfields that I've tried. One compact 45 and an M1A.
I know those are completely different guns. Both didn't run right when new and even after breaking in. Ended up selling both. Really wanna give Springfield a chance. I like that they don't have the other safety. I hear they have great customer service but never gave that a chance. But from what I read, it's hit and miss with Springfield.

Put another intersecting scratch on it to make it appear it's not an idiot scratch.
