Gun butter?

Whatever 5W30 I have leftover usually.
I've used Amsoil transmission fluid in a pinch.
I've also used bargain basement bearing grease that smelled like it just gave you lymphoma.

Someone said petroleum based and toxic works best, I would +1 that.

I notice that stuff comes in a large tube, presumably to be dispensed by something like a caulking gun. What do you use to get this stuff into a more manageable container?

Gloved hand works best.
I get grease from buddies who are mechanics.

I had Slip 2000 in a syringe.
It was fine, syringe was the best part.
The $10-$15 for the little tube sucked.
I refilled it and that's in my bag.

I bought some hooked and straight syringes from Harbor Freight.
Just cut the tip back until you get your desired application trail and pressure.

I was turned onto that by a parking meter repair guy in San Francisco.
Saw him walking around with a tool bucket and a can of Ballistol years ago when meters were still mechanical.

I learned a lot from the parking meter guy.

They're a handier size than the big ones at Harbor Freight.

I'm a cheap bastard, so I just asked the hygienist for a couple after my root canal and crown a few months back.

This thread reminded me that I had them kicking around my trunk in that bag they give you with the floss, toothpaste, mouthwash samples.

I use tetra grease and love it as it's far better than oil. However I've never tried any other grease.

Frog Lube, Slip 2k, Tetra grease... I use it all.

I've been using Hoppes gun oil also, but I thought it would be a good idea to use grease on the slide.

So it makes sense to use a grease on the slide, but where else would you use grease instead of a regular lube?

That said, white lithium works great for me around the house, garage and auto. I guess it would be great for slides as well.

I grease my slide and frame rails, takedown lever, decocker, and the slide where my hammer rides.
Rest get drops of motor oil.
That's the Sigs.

Benelli gets rails and bolt head grease.
Inertia spring is motor oil only.
The bolt body, bolt channel get a motor oil & grease mix.

1911's are exclusively motor oil BC they're too tight for grease.
66-3 is exclusively motor oil.

If it gets hot enough to boil off oil I go grease.
If the fit is tight and I'm going to shoot it all day (minor surface clean btw cases), then I mix.
If the fit is tight but I'll baby it (under 200rds+immediate detail clean) oil it.

Six years ago when I bought my lifetime supply of Mobil 1 it was then packaged in a one pound round can with a replaceable plastic lid.

In a nutshell, you don't need anything fancy.

my feelings exactly...as long as you're using some type of lubricant you'll probably do just fine

i've used ballistol, drops of hoppe's oil, shooters choice grease

my son just bought some of this oil for his truck...think it might be worth stealing a little bit for my handguns
