For the guys that took Daves class...his email says bring a holster. Do you need one for each weapon ? IWB or OWB ? Did anyone not bring one ? I was still waiting to purchase them.

Yes you need a holster for your primary weapon. OWB is fine. It's less important for the other weapons you will qualify so long as you have enough magazines to get through the 50 round (5 Mag) qual. If you don't have 5 mags for your secondary guns it will be hard to reload mags with a gun in your hand.
I would be annoyed if I was in that class and was always waiting on someone who didn't have a holster. It's already annoying enough when someone only has 1 or 2 mags.Comment

so how do they do a 5 mag 50 round qualify if your mags dont hold 10 rounds? Might seem like a stupid question but still im curious??Yes you need a holster for your primary weapon. OWB is fine. It's not a 5 mag qualify
It's a 50 round qualify
If you have to stop and reload several magizines you will typically have a group of people standing there waiting for you.
What we did for 2 people who did not have enough magizes, was to reload them for them while they were shooting. Worked ok. But if you can afford them, be sure to have extra. Plus as time goes on, I know that at the range I would rather have a number of magizines as opposed to constantly reloading. And if your going to carry, you owe it to yourself and others to be sure to get in plenty of range time.
Good luck to you.Comment

Point:
The training thru NFI, for Solano, was a thirty round course of fire, five rounds per magazine, reloads structured into the segments. Granted we only had 6 in the class, but each person only needed roughly ten min to complete their round. With three shooting at once the finals were the shortest segment of the day. Also there was only one guy with ten rnd mags as most of us qualified with assorted compacts and revolvers, maxing out at 5/7/8 rnds.Last edited by cooker143; 08-16-2015, 11:46 PM.Comment

In our class if it was not our turn qualifying then you were loading someone else's mag while they were qualifying. The annoying guy is the guy with 1 mag. 3 is more then enough. While you are shooting 1 mag, someone is loading your last used mag for you. Even the instructor loaded a mag for me when there wasn't someone to help (qualifying with my third weapon, most others were done). You can buy more mags if you want, but don't feel like you need to just to take this class.Comment

Well, took mine in and dropped it off this morning...fingers crossed that it takes under two weeks, or I'll have to wait until I get back from Idaho in 2mo to pick it up!
Overall, it's been a pretty smooth process, and since I was fully expecting the whole process to take 9mo or more, it's been a pleasant surprise to be wrapping it up as quickly as I have (initial app in April)!
Also, you can't go wrong using BRCA for your training/range qualification. Great guys that make the 8-hours go by quickly.

Next to last update:
Application submitted 3/23/2015
LiveScan completed 4/23/2015
2nd approval received 8/27/2015 (letter dated 8/23/2015)
Qualification paperwork submitted 8/28/2015 (took class 7/25/2015)
189 days in the process, so far. Another 1-3 weeks to go.
What, exactly, is reviewed in this last review. Seems like the LiveScan review would be the "make or break" review.
Congrats to all those who have recently received their permits. It seems like a long wait when you're in the middle of it.Last edited by Let's Go Plink; 08-28-2015, 4:18 PM.Comment
