Good point. That said though, the previous event a month or two ago had both the Chief and his Assistant Chief (I think) in attendance, not a stuck-ee beat cop.

Here's the thing though..... if the City is under no legal mandate to issue and can basically defer it to SCCSO by default, I don't see politically why the local agency would spend more than 2 seconds passing the proverbial buck.

Thanks, some of those requirements sound unconstitutional - letters of reference? interview - lots of room for discretion....

Martin Nielsen, whose bribery-related confessions fueled indictments and seeded the political cloud that compelled Sheriff Laurie Smith’s pending retirement, took the stand Monday.

I tried applying via SJPD yesterday and this is the response that I got...TLDR: Same **** different day

"The process is presently on hold while the City attorneys office reviews the policies to ensure that it aligns with the legislative requirements. In the long run , this will ensure the process is more streamlined as well. We will reach out to folks when the process is approved to move forward."

and yet most every other county in the state of CA has no problem aligning with legislative requirements to fulfill their duties to their citizens.

I guess no one at the SO ever made it as far as page 9? I know it's not exactly Hemingway's 'A Farewell to Arms', but come on!

This is so discouraging. Everyone says, yeah, put in your application...and then you hear stories like yours, where hello, its been 7 years+ without a peep.

These clowns don't give a fark about the constitution or the Supreme Court. I feel like submitting an application is basically sending it to their circular file.

BTW....who should we vote for for the SC County Sheriff? Recommendations?

I sent in my application to SJPD 6/26 (online) and SCC 7/1 (in person). No response as usual.

Nothing will happen until litigation forces them to do so (which will take a very long time), or once SCC sheriff changes hands to Jensen (ideal candidate) - which will also take time since he won't issue from day 1 in office. He'll most likely revamp the entire system which will take months.

Don't expect anything for 6 months to 1+ years. A win at supreme court never guarantees quick changes. We'll need to win at state level and locally.

BTW, note that the San Jose gun insurance and tax requirement has an exemption if you hold a concealed carry license...which we all know you can't get. Filed my application nearly 10 years ago....I'm sure it went right into the trash.

Any chance we could get CRPA to sue the county? They would have no problem finding folks to be plaintiffs.
