I think you can get a 3 year or something online from DMV but if you go in, I believe you can request a 7 or 10 year one. I cannot remember but that is what I did. Also make an appointment if you are going to go in, I walked in and it took forever waiting just to get a print out that took all of 5 minutes.

How organized is the stack of apps I wonder? I picture adding one as described above would be difficult....unless they have a pretty good filing system perhaps?
How long after handing in the app do you generally have your interview? How is the interview different than sitting down with the investigator that happens like a year later?Comment

You need to start the process by calling for an interview. You'll bring your application with you to that appointment. An investigator will sit down with you and go over your application with you. That's all the interview entails. There is no interview after that unless the sheriff wants to meet with you personally.Anchors Aweigh

I was incorrect stating you did not need an appointment for renewal interview. That was correct before but not anymore. I was told yesterday when picking up renewal CCW you now need an appointment for EVERYTHING. Asked me when I arrived if I had an appointment. Wasn't required before but is now.Comment

About 10 to 12 months after your interview, an investigator will call you to ask if anything has changed since you filled out your application (address, phone number, email address, etc.). You can give him the serial numbers of the guns you qualified with (or plan to qualify with) at that time. He or she will run the serial numbers to make sure those guns are registered to you. If they are, they will then list those guns on your permit. You can change them at any time after your permit is issued for a $10 processing fee (but you'll have to qualify with the new guns you want to add).

Ok, the pieces are starting to come together now, thank you! So I call, make an appointment, and that is the big sit down interview, yes? The ~10-12mo later talk with the investigator is just to confirm info and make any changes?Comment

The first interview is very informal; mine took five minutes. He is just verifying what is on your application. As stated upthread, that will be your only interview unless something comes up and Sheriff Moore would like you to come in to discuss. As you stated, the investigator will call in about 10-12 months to confirm whether there are any changes and then if all is okay, you move up the chain.
Then you wait.............................................. .............................................NRA memberComment

As for adding a new weapon after you have already taken the initial 16 hour course, its short and simple. Each instructor has their own requirements for qualification but you will not need to take the course again or do any class work. It's just the shooting qualification portion. You just need to show that you can accurately shoot the weapon you wish to add.
I used Valley Defense and would recommend them to anyone looking for an instructor. Their shooting qualification is short and simple.Comment
