Congratulations! I am now at fifteen months so I should be getting a call any day now!

My app has been in the sheriff's office since December, 2016, about four months. Just received a call from Violet at SJSO that the sheriff would like have a meeting next week. She said four others were scheduled as well. I am thinking Sheriff Moore does not know me and would like to talk a bit.

I had an interview with Sheriff Moore on my first CCW application. Just go in there and whatever you do TELL THE TRUTH on everything.

He might have some concerns that he would like to address.

Information the SJSO still states no appointment needed for renewal
I was just in there trying to start the renewal process, no appointment needed.
The office told me they are not accepting renewal app. until 3 month before expiration of existing. I told him we would be out of state for the summer leaving May 20, my CCW expires in August. He was nice enough to ask me to come back May 16 to start the process. Seems he's looking for property in Idaho too.

I only passed on what I was told when picking up my renewal.

I received the email today. I pick up my permit next Tuesday!
Initial application turned in - 12/28/2015
First call from investigator - 11/15/2016
Permit to be in hand - 04/25/2017

Total time - about 15 and a half months. When talking with Sheriff Moore last week, he clearly stated that he does not want to deprive anyone of exercising their 2nd amendment rights. Have patience, all those who are still waiting!

Holy cow. Is this an unusual case or is the process out to 15 months now? I have mine, just wondering because I have friends in the process who I keep informed.

I was told that the holidays slowed things up a bit. The sheriff also had a concern about something in my past (25 years ago) that he wanted resolved (it was). That may have been the delay.

                      It was worth the wait.

Only 25 years? My interview was about a few arrests that went back 40 years.

The Sheriff is being careful and if I was in his position, I would do the same. He's doing the right thing.

I am sure this has been asked before, but do I need to complete the CCW training before I apply?

                              No.

No. You take it after the investigator contacts you and tells you the date is near and they are sending it to the Sheriff for a signature. You want the 2 year period that your CCW qualification is good for to run concurrent with the 2 year permit.
