Supervisor Elliott asked me to thank you for sharing your concerns, and to share with you that the Board of supervisors approved the 2015-2016 Budget today, which included resources for the Sheriff to hire two new background investigators to work on concealed weapon applications.
Bill Elliott is a good man. He is an ex green beret (a Colonel, a real life John Wayne). I know him personally and are good friends with some people I know. I will ask him about this the next time I see him in Tracy.

It would also seem to indicate support from the board of supervisors for CCWs in San Joaquin County.
I agree with this. Albeit slow, we are still lucky here in San Joaquin County compared to a lot of counties in the area.

If the US 1st amendment were treated like the 2nd amendment by US politicians, we will need a license to speak in public, need a background check to buy a book, and can only buy one every 30 days. They say the pen is mightier than the sword, yet the sword is the most regulated part of the constitution.

      Well...
While the slow march forward on permit processing is to an extent encouraging (forget being way too long IMO), it may end up being moot in my case.
Interviewed Dec 8, '14. At this rate, my package won't get picked up until Nov, '15 at earliest. At this time, I'm in the running for a job in Texas, which, if everything works out, would pull me out of state as soon as September.
Hypothetical: If I personally relocate to Texas for a job, and my family has to maintain our California residence for an indeterminate amount of time, perhaps in order to prepare and sell the house, would I still have cause to pursue the permit? I understand that it wouldn't benefit me personally in Texas, since CCW out there is more or less a foregone conclusion, but I wouldn't be able to use a TX permit when home with the family.
      Just wondering.

How is it that Sacramento county can do in 3 months a task that takes 12 months in San Joaquin county

          Let me rephrase this...
Why does San Joaquin county take 12 months to do a task that takes only 3 months in Sacramento (the facking adjacent) county?

Maybe because Sacramento has more resources to work with?

I don't think there's any big conspiracy here. The SO is continuing to issue permits. Maybe not as fast as everyone would like, but I think it's more a matter of not having enough people. It's simple enough for us to sit here and say they should assign more people to the job, but when you don't have money to hire that means pulling staff from doing things like catching actual, real-life bad guys.

The good news is that it sounds like they're trying to address the situation, based on the budget info provided earlier in this thread.

Look at it this way, you can call and get an appointment in a few weeks her in San Joaquin, in Sacramento it is about 6 months out for an appointment, so add that up and your at nine months which is how long it took to get mine

As I posted earlier, it is virtually IMPOSSIBLE for a private citizen (non-LEO) to obtain a CCW in Livermore or anywhere else in Alameda County (I lived there for 20 years). Count your blessings that we can in San Joaquin and the Central Valley, even though it may take 12 months!

Just wanted to add a note here, actually an initial appointment in Sacramento can be had in just a few days. I went online on a Friday and got an appointment the following Monday.

Currently in Sacramento initial approval is around 33 days and DOJ is coming in around 63 days after Livescan on an average.

What still irritates me most is anything to do with exercising my second amendment rights requires an ok from a government agency . And usually not once but numeros times. If you have been approved to buy a firearm you should be able to carry it . I don't need permission from (The government) to go to church or to speak my mine in public at least for now. If the anti-gun crowd could apply the same requirements to purchasing a fire arm as to being able to carry it would make their day . I believe in north caraliona you have to get the permission of the sheriff to purchased a hand gun . Encourage all your friends to apply for a CCW . The more people exercising their second amendment rights the better.

I received a nice email from CCW Background Investigations today. It told me that she was working on my application and asked me if there had been any changes to the info I had submitted on the application. It also asked me for a copy of my work policy on weapons, which I promptly sent and she accepted via email. The email stated that she hoped to have my application finished by next week and to email her if I had any questions.

                        Made my day.

If your company doesn't have a written policy regarding weapons but is supportive, is there a sample they could download to use as a template?

I believe I was told it had to be in company letter head saying it was allowed. Not sure why they ask my work says no and they did not add a restriction to my permit

If somebody has link to an example that would be helpful.
