Just spoke to Professional Standards and they did confirm that you need an appointment for the renewal. Said that 1-2 months ahead of renewal date is adequate

Agreed. And the Day 2 training portion is excellent.

As for adding a new weapon after you have already taken the initial 16 hour course, its short and simple. Each instructor has their own requirements for qualification but you will not need to take the course again or do any class work. It's just the shooting qualification portion. You just need to show that you can accurately shoot the weapon you wish to add.

    Excellent! Thank you!

The first interview is very informal; mine took five minutes. He is just verifying what is on your application. As stated upthread, that will be your only interview unless something comes up and Sheriff Moore would like you to come in to discuss. As you stated, the investigator will call in about 10-12 months to confirm whether there are any changes and then if all is okay, you move up the chain.

    Then you wait.............................................. .............................................

If they are, they will then list those guns on your permit. You can change them at any time after your permit is issued for a $10 processing fee (but you'll have to qualify with the new guns you want to add).

Ok, the pieces are starting to come together now, thank you! So I call, make an appointment, and that is the big sit down interview, yes? The ~10-12mo later talk with the investigator is just to confirm info and make any changes?

I was incorrect stating you did not need an appointment for renewal interview. That was correct before but not anymore. I was told yesterday when picking up renewal CCW you now need an appointment for EVERYTHING. Asked me when I arrived if I had an appointment. Wasn't required before but is now.

You might want to try this thread here?

I think most counties have their own thread and that is probably the best place to get information for that county.

I had one when I filled out the application, but 2 different ones when I took the class. I was told you don't have to have one on the application.

I think you can get a 3 year or something online from DMV but if you go in, I believe you can request a 7 or 10 year one. I cannot remember but that is what I did. Also make an appointment if you are going to go in, I walked in and it took forever waiting just to get a print out that took all of 5 minutes.

Just don't want to get told I only get 1 because that was all that was on my original application, you know?
