Good to hear all to good news from people, especially to one who is not a citizen -

The call and email came from an office worker at the Professional Standards Division and had her name on it. Watch for email that comes from the @sjgov.org domain. Better yet, have it white listed on your email application so it does not go to junk mail. The title/subject she put on the email was "CCW".

Congrats!! That's awesome to hear!
I would like to ask, what the email header/sender was? Does it say San Joaquin Sheriff's Dept? Or something similar?
I know the phone call is from an unlisted number? I still have a ways to go though...Leave a comment:

Got my approval today. A woman from the Sheriff's office left me a voice-mail (I missed the call while I was in the train to work), but she sent me an email too.
Applied/Initial Interview: 10/06/2014
Approved: 09/15/2015
"This email is to inform you that your application for your Carry Concealed Weapon (CCW) has been completed and you have been approved. The required training for a new CCW applicant is 16 hours. Once you take your class you can come into the Sheriff's Office on any Tuesday or Wednesday between 8AM to 3:00PM with your certificate showing you completed the class and qualified with the weapon(s). When you come in we will need a check, exact cash or money order for 76.00.
At this time you are NOT AUTHORIZED to carry a concealed weapon and are still subject to any violation of the law."
The only contacts I ever had was at the initial interview, then an email a few days after that from the investigator to confirm that I am eligible (I am not yet a US Citizen, but I legally reside here and hold a 'green card'), and requested a copy of my company's weapons policy. No contact after that until today's approval voicemail/email.
It took a while, but San Joaquin is very lucky to have Sheriff Moore.Last edited by bst1208; 09-15-2015, 6:02 PM.Leave a comment:

Meet with the Sheriff yesterday, received approval email this morning.
Meeting was pretty uneventful, just outside of some standard questions. He just said he wanted to meet some folks he's issuing to. He was very approachable and candid, thanks Sheriff.Leave a comment:

@Uly,
I applied back in December, and included the letter of Transmittal and the Cover Sheet. The guy that came out to look over my paperwork initially all but threw them in the trash right off, basically saying they were unnecessary.
Now that the position of the Sheriff's office is much more shall- than may-issue, the Cover Letter may be considered largely superfluous. Since you are handing the packet over in person, the Letter of Transmittal is more of a formality...one that the BI or interviewer may or may not take any value in.
Not gospel, just my experience and my opinion. Good luck with your application.Leave a comment:

Hi All,
Going to be applying this coming week. Is all of the info on the Letter of Transmittal and the cover letter still accurate? And are they required to submit the application or what?Leave a comment:
