Ab1134 isn't going to change much. SO office could always deny. He doesn't need a reason to kick it to the PDLeave a comment:

Current law allows a person residing in a city to apply to the sheriff or the local police chief for a CCW. Assembly Bill (AB) 1134 was signed into law yesterday by Gov Brown. This bill now allows the sheriff to require a city resident to apply only to the police chief and would take away the right of a city resident to apply directly to their elected sheriff for a CCW. The game has changed ladies and gentlemen, and not for the better. The California Firearms Policy Coalition, the California Rifle and Pistol Association, Defensive Carry.Com, and other in-state pro-gun organizations believe that the issuance of CCW permits could be greatly restricted by this new bill (now law). They all opposed its passage. Also, the California State Sheriffs Association were reported to be greatly in favor of AB 1134, which will now give each sheriff the ability to relieve their offices of the work-related and budget-related burden of processing CCW applications. As Samuel Adams replied (and I agree), "Time will tell". However, I, for one, believe that Sheriff Moore will come to embrace this new law and take advantage of the resources of the city PD's in processing the vast amount of future CCW applications (and renewals) for SJC.gmony: I am acquainted with two officers on the MPD force. They have told me that Chief Obligacion has not been receptive to issuing CCW permits. Who's to say that, given the right circumstances, he will issue. I am hopeful that Sheriff Moore will continue with processing applications given that he has built up a staff (and obtained extra budget) for the effort.Leave a comment:

mojoe24: I too have just past my 1-year CCW anniversary. In about 6-8 months I'll apply for a renewal. I am hopeful that Sheriff Moore will still be the primary POC for handling all SJC initial applications and renewals. Time will tell.Leave a comment:

Existing SJC Permit Holders, AB1134
I know at this point we can only offer up assumptions, but for those of you in this thread who have already received their CCW's through SJCSO: do you think with the passage of AB1134, there will be any chance of being "grandfathered in" come renewal time for those of us who have already been issued through the county...pre-AB1134?
Tracy-based CCW permit holder here, coming up on my first year of carrying, and if it comes time to renew and we have to do the dance with TPD Chief....this whole effort may have been a one trick pony.Leave a comment:

TrackerStan, do you know what the MPD chief's stance on CCW is? If he is issuing I would assume it wouldn't be a year wait like SJC. I am turning in my app to SJC today.Leave a comment:

Just called San Joaquin Prof. Standards this morning. The woman said they are just starting December, 2014 application and I should hear from them shortly (exactly what they told me last Monday)...Leave a comment:
