Talked to John Palmer last week. Was told to hold off applying. Sheriff Moore is issuing very few CCW's and most have restrictions now.

You could have put "personal protection outside the home" and achieved the same results in stanislaus county. You wouldn't have needed a letter from your employer or his donation money.I am a CCW holder from Stanislaus County and recently moved to San Joaquin Valley so I am not looking forward to the reciprocity deal (cause there is none). In my good cause statement, I was warned NOT to use the "self defense" claim as Law Enforcement views the public as a bunch of skally-wags that don't know the difference between self defense and you stepped on my toes. Therefore, on my CCW Application, my good cause statement was worded as, "I work in the field of Loss Prevention and arrest a large number of confirmed Norteno gang members, 3rd strikers, and suspects with violent backgrounds. I have been the subject of numerous death threats, I have been attacked by a confirmed MOB gangster (case # _____), and because I live within walking distance of the Modesto Mall on Dale Rd I routinely run into these individuals and have been recognized off-duty on many many occasions. I do not promote violence, I am not a proponent for shooting my fellow man, however I have come to realize that these incidents happen within seconds and Law Enfocement averages a 4 minute response time on a good day."
This was enough to get my permit granted. My employer, who donates over $2,000 a year to the Sheriff, also wrote me a Letter of Recommendation, which did seem to help.
I hope this info helps. Keep plugging along.
good luck with that in San Joaquin county.Comment

I'm still waiting to find out what penalty the Sheriff faces for not responding to my application within in the 90 days required by law..... apparently none.

I can tell you that SJ Co. is in touch - recall that we sent a demand late last year - and working on some real improvements.
I'll share more when I can.

Unconstitutional
I know this is probably a stupid question... but when does the law ever make any sense....? The 2nd Ammendment makes no mention of limiting the type of firearm, amunition, or quantity of firearms a person can carry; nor does it have any language prohibiting any future weapons not yet perceived or prohibit we the people from any specific method of carrying or bearing firearms.
That being said how are any of the laws passed in our state banning firearms, limiting use, or our various counties requiring we apply for CCW's and then denying us of our CCW's legal let alone Constitutional? Why isn't it easier to sue over or over turn these nonsensical and unconstitutional laws on that basis alone? Is it really only left wing politics and stupidity that keep these laws in force?
Any Explanations?Comment

This isn't really the right thread to go into how state and federal laws work. It has to do with incorporation... or lack there of.I know this is probably a stupid question... but when does the law ever make any sense....? There is a LOT to learn here as far as firearms and firearms related laws. WAY to much to get into. Browse around and do a lot of reading. Take care.Absolute power corrupts absolutely, even on Calguns.
