Leaving the Bay Area. Multiple home invasion victim to the point that the police knows me. Police always late. Got tired of shooting in the neighborhood and be a sitting duck here in Alameda county. Must be a consistent "shall issue" county, but also good "gun culture". Looking at Stockton. CCW is a big reason. What is the average waiting time for getting one? As far as training is concerned I am not worried, since I am myself an instructor and already maxed out all NRA classes..(at this point I have to start going to Front Sight). I am also a DoJ CoE holder + FFL3 so background check should be no big deal, as I renew it every year.

http://carrylaws.net/ has no info on this county whatsoever.

Sounds like your sheriff is a good man.

If you move to anywhere in San Joaquin County (accept for Ripon), you'll apply through the Sheriffs office. It has consistently taken 1 year for the process of obtaining your CCW. If you move to the city of Ripon, you can apply through the Police Department and you'd have your carry permit within 4 to 8 weeks.

Also, you only need "self defense" as your reasoning for wanting to carry.

Good luck and sorry to hear about your multiple home invasions. Although, even in Oakland you can carry in your own home.

Don't blame you , I would never move back to the Bay Area for that reason now, Live in Stockton now have CCW still work in Alameda county, all my co workers are envious of our CCW in the valley. Good Luck

Does it mean you can apply through EITHER the police or the sheriff in Ripon?
Home defense is one thing, having to worry about getting shot just parking your car outside of your home, or dealing with shooting outside the church across the street was enough. Criminals also do not care about the law, the local school is one block away and you can find brasses easily.

It means that if you move to Ripon proper, you need to apply to the Chief of Police. If you move to anywhere else in the County, you go see the Sheriff.

Not correct. You can *ALWAYS* apply for a CCW from the Sheriff of the county you reside in even if you live in an incorporated city within the county that has it's own police department. Some police chiefs decide to pass on the issuance of ccw permits to the Sheriff and they'll tell you to apply directly there.

              Hope that helps...

I got my CCW permit from the Sheriff. Two of my neighbors got their permits from the Police Chief. We all live a stone's throw apart.

I stand corrected gentlemen(and ladies). I was mistakingly under the impression that the COP of Ripon was the one to see if you lived in Ripon.

I live there too, and if anything every law abiding citizen needs a gun. I hope the county starts issuing more permits. Maybe the criminals would move away, hopefully to SF.

We need to start a rolling a advertisement on racebook of how criminal business is booming and profits skyrocketing in sf.

My renewal is due in 5 months. Friend at the SJ Sheriffs office said to start the renewal process at least 4 months before. Just made my renewal appointment for next Tues. 6/28. Here we go again! Wish they were good for longer than 2 years!

Had my renewal interview yesterday. He confirmed Sheriff Moore isn't changing anything. He said they are getting a lot of renewals and that I should here back in August but not to come in until just before it expires end of October because the 2 years will start again from the renewal date. I also asked if I should wait until approval to get my training and he said I can get it anytime.
