Thank you all.
As I understand it, you may qualify with any three guns at your CCW training class. Make sure they list those guns and their serial numbers on your certificate. Those three guns may then be placed on your CCW permit.

ADVICE or INSIGHT on this topic

First of all, I hope I am posting this in the correct area and format.

I am requesting some input and or advice on my situation in regards to my CCW permit. Maybe someone here is or was in this same or similar position as follows. I was just contacted by the SO and, the investigator informs me I looked 'good to go' on my CCW application except for one issue. I retired 23 years ago in 1996 with PTSD from a previous employer where I was required to carry a firearm, LEO status. Due to my retirement status I could not be issued a 'Retired CCW Card' with that employer only. My retired status does not prevent me from owning firearms, purchasing firearms or applying for a CCW with the SO and, I have not had any PTSD issues since my retirement. I did discuss my situation with the investigator and understood but because of my past retired status the sheriff is requesting me to have a psychological examination per Ca Penal Code 26190(f). just to be safe, which I understand. I was also informed that this testing is also done with some veterans who apply that have PTSD and are granted a CCW. I plan to make an appointment with the PhD that they use over in Modesto. Besides what I just explained I've had several clearances with Homeland Security, DOJ and the FBI. Any thoughts or similar situations, advice? Thank you!

The Sheriff is covering his A**. You should be fine though. I have not had to take the psych exam but have spoken to others that have and it is in depth but fair. Plan to spend several hours there and just be honest.

Okay and thanks for the encouraging words and advice. I agree with you, the SO is covering his back on it, that's only fair. I'm looking forward to passing it, as I think I will. I'll let you know how it go's in Modesto.

                CCW Psyc Evaluations

I just made my pre-CCW appointment for the psychological evaluation SJSO is requesting, they are like two months out for any openings.

Don't want to be a spoiler, however the Legislature recently sent a bill (AB 1134) to the Governor's desk for his review, approval/disapproval that, according to the NRA, will add to the red tape associated with applying for and gaining approval for a CCW. Essentially the bill makes it easier for the County Sheriff to delegate all responsibility for issuing CCW's to the city PD for reviewing and deciding action on CCW applications for that city's residents. I live in Manteca, and the current Police Chief, according to a couple of my LE friends, is not pro-Carry. I believe that Sheriff Moore has come a long way is changing his view of granting law-abiding citizens with the right to carry in SJ county. I would hate to see him hand off the responsibility for processing CCW applications to the local PD's where the chief may be anti-carry. The NRA suggests that we email the Governor and ask him to not sign AB 1134 into law.

He could just as easily say no on his own if he wanted to push your off.

SJ County took me 7.5 months. My Arizona non-resident took 12 days!

It's been 11 months since my interview, but last week I heard from my investigator asking questions about CCW at work, work policy etc. Hope to hear back in another week saying "go do your 16 hour training"

                          Progress my friends.

Just turned my paperwork in today and did the livescan. They said it will be about 10 months. I thought the 10 day wait for a firearm was bad
The laws that forbid the carrying of arms are laws of such a nature. They disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes.... Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man." - Thomas Jefferson (quoting 18th century criminologist Cesare Beccaria)"

I applied October 6, 2014 and was approved last week.

If the US 1st amendment were treated like the 2nd amendment by US politicians, we will need a license to speak in public, need a background check to buy a book, and can only buy one every 30 days. At least Sheriff Moore is issuing He had to deal with an influx of a few thousand applications after it became known that he was issuing on self defense grounds. He's doing his due diligence in making sure firearms do not get into the wrong hands. I think the wait will shorten in time.

Nevertheless, I still consider gun owners in SJ county luckier than gun owners living in counties in the SF Bay Area (i.e., San Francisco, Santa Clara, Alameda). I used to live in San Jose and this is one of the many things that make me glad we made the decision to move to Tracy in 2001.
