      Update on application

Hey guys, I just signed up to stay up to date on when permits are being issued. I applied around Christmas and just called to get an update. The lady on the phone told me they were still working on Julys applicants. Is there nothing we can do about this outrageous wait time. I'm a veteran and find this whole process to be somewhat insulting. It was fine for me to carry a weapon at all times for the last ten years but now I need to wait 10 months for the sheriffs approval?? Convenient.

Nothing we can do on the wait time, to be honest I think their doing the best they can, big back log since lots applied within a short period of time and small staff. Mine took 8 months not counting the 30 yrs prior to them not issuing. At least we don't live in the Bay Area my friends in San Francisco are envious

Just got the call. Approved. I applied in June of last year. First contact was 2 months ago. I don't know if there are any restrictions on it. Need to complete my class next. I also can't comment on self defense still being accepted. Mine was self defense but I also added the ISIS threat and that I sometimes carry large amounts of mobility gear including body armor and night vision.

Just wanted to let people know that they are still being approved.

I am moving into the area in a couple months. How about a applicants' barbecue in the sheriffs office parking lot once each month... Maybe some very public offers to volunteer with the paperwork

Anyone here go through a reapplication or renewal of their CCW in San Joaquin County?
If so, any comments would be helpful for the CCW's that will expire at the end of the 2 year date. Thanks in advance.

I was told to make sure I get an appointment 4 months before it expires, I plan on calling around the 1 year mark

I'm appalled by the wait times too, but it doesn't appear to be a reflection of actual approval rates or any political sneakiness on the SO's part. I had three different investigators work on mine from my May appointment until my December approval to my March issuance (I had a baby so there was a delay in my ability to get my training done after my approval). The investigators are all retired LEOs who come back to work on a limited basis and the SO won't pay more out of the budget to hire more people because, well, our county is broke. They did so for a month during the initial application boom, but after that dried up, they're relying on a few people to handle the whole process. It sucks, but the delay seems to be purely a money and staffing problem, not an underhanded desire to keep us from carrying.

That being said, there NEEDS to be something done about it if they're going to efficiently grant something that shouldn't take a permit anyway so as to burden the applicants the least.

Very well said. We are a rather disadvantage county that is still suffering from the Great Recession unlike the counties in the Bay Area and SoCal. What seems like a right to us is obviously lower on the priority scale considering the amount of crime we have. It seems like 10 months is going to be the timeframe.

My question then is where is the money from our fees going. The law states that they are not allowed to charge more than the actual cost of processibg the app but not more than 100. That means the money is there to hire more
