Another email this morning, asking about when I applied for a chp officer in 2008 (I was 21) and asked what happened with that. I passed the writer the physical the psychological test interview pannel and lie detector. I had tried marijuana two times when I was 15. There was a 7 year no tolerance policy that has since changed to 1 year. Because of that I was denied. Well see what happens now

I decided to call in case he had any questions. He asked why I didn't put in the aplication that I had used marijuana before. I stated it was 14 years ago and there was not any spot on the aplication that asked about drug use, it only asked about tickets within the last 5 years. He then stated he would be contacting the chp for a copy of the background check and he would look in to it.

I am worried whit how he worded why didn't you put that in. My responce was it was 14 years ago and the aplication asked for arrests and convictions.

I had a drug/alcohol issue that was 20+ years old and disclosed it as well. Just wanted to be honest... In my initial interview, I was told "that might be a problem" I would rather be honest and upfront, than for them to find out on their own and have to call me on it.

I had honestly completely forgotten about it because there was no record of it

May 13th interview still waiting have had no contact at all. I have a question about my work policy as I am sure it will be on the list of questions I receive. My policy states

"Except where prohibited by law, employees will be advised and are not to bring weapons on Company premises, including location parking lots. Employees failing to comply with these guidelines will be subject to disciplinary action up to and including termination."

The part that stands out to me is the very first part where it says except where prohibited by law. What would you tell the investigator when he asks? I would like to carry at work as I work in Stockton and have had several robberies in our shopping center.

I have also filed for my Utah, Nevada and Arizona permits I am sure I will get all three of those before Ca.

I read that as unless there is a law saying that they have to allow you to work (certain areas in alaska) that you are not allowed.

My investigator stated that I would have to provided a letter from my supervisor on company letterhead if I wanted to carry at work

I would guess hundreds. If not thousands. Remember San Joaquin was issuing before Peruta was issued (there requirement for good cause was fairly reasonable).

I applied and had interview May 9, got a call the other day to ask about my employment (I'm a stay at home mom). I guess being unemployed looks dodgy, but they spoke to my husband to ask about his employment to make sure we weren't drug dealers or something and he was satisfied. Got my call today that I was approved and a follow up email with the training information so I can finish this up! FINALLY!

It shouldn't take 7 months to place one phone call and approve of an applicant.

Had a follow up interview with Sheriff Moore himself on Dec. 17, 2014. Initial app date was April 18, 2014.

Moore brought up some speeding tickets, tagging incident during my freshman year in HS(dropped), a vicodin poss charge in HS (dropped), and my motorcycle accident. He made it sound pretty close to an outright denial without actually saying it. He asked me how he could sign a permit for someone like me to carry a gun being only a few years removed from HS (I am 25 y/o). I mentioned that I work full time, a college student full time, and a father of 2 and he just brought up the fact that I was only 25 and a few years removed from my run-ins with the law in HS.

Said something about how most officer involved shootings come from their own guns what more of a chance does a civilian have. Also mentioned how it is solely up to his discretion still. Sounds like they arent completly in line with the developments of Peruta.

All in all a pretty discouraging meeting. I hope this will all pan out with Peruta someday soon so that people like Sheriff Moore would not have the "discretion" to grant a CCW, but be forced to follow a set of guidelines on who does and does not qualify.

Even with Peruta, a sheriff can still deny you on morals. Being that you caused damage via vandalism and had Possession of drugs just a few years ago is a pretty good reason to not be granted a ccw. Just because you're in college and have two kids does not mean you have matured. That is the price you pay for making dumb decisions as a young adult.
I've had several friends that have tried getting into corrections, fire, pd, sheriff, or CHP and fail the backgrounds because of lesser decisions than what you have made.

Peruta, in no way, created a 'shall issue' situation. It only addressed self defense as being a good enough cause. All other requirements and IA's judgement still stands. And yes, 25 is just a 'few year' since you legal issues.
