I had range on a Saturday, was called Thursday afternoon and picked up Friday.

So usually within a week but have heard some getting the call after a week but less than two.

        My on-going SBSD CCW experience...

04-30-15 = call to set up interview
        06-24-15 = interview
07-01-15 = work received, completed, and mailed back the "employment letter".
        07-28-15 = residency check
08-26-15 = received call telling me I passed the background check and to schedule a range date.
09-23-15 = received email reminder of Range Safety Class on 10-10-15.
        10-10-15 = scheduled range date.
10-13-15 = received call telling me there is an issue with one of the handguns I want listed on my permit and they wanted to know if I wanted to drop that handgun & have my permit issued with two handguns or if I wanted to delay issuance of my permit, until I resolved the handgun issue with CA DOJ BOF. (I went with dropping the handgun)
10-22-15 = I haz permit! (picked it up at Sheriff HQ)
10-15-16 = Received renewal letter in mail.
02-05-17 = Called and made reservation for renewal class.
        07-13-17 = Renewal class.
07-21-17 = Turn in renewal application packet. (no appointment, just walked in)
08-03-17 = Do range qualifications for permit modifications (dropped one handgun and added two handguns)
09-13-17 = Received new CA LTC permit in the mail. (old permit expires 10-15-17 and new permit issue date is 10-15-17, so no overlap)

Can you say what handgun they had an issue with? Or why there was an issue with it?

Congrats on making through the lengthy process.

So you went through all that and your new permit expires in a month?

            Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

Wouldn't it expire in two years? 10-15-19?

He got his original permit 10-22-15. His renewal permit arrived in the mail 9-13-17 with an issue date of 10-15-17 so it expires 10-15-19

The serial number on my handgun (Kel-Tec P32 Gen 1) does not exactly match what is listed in CLETS-AFS.

Contacted CA DOJ BOF and talked to an firearms technician and his supervisor.
What they said was since the serial number for my handgun starts with a 0, the system automatically drops the 0. The system was created/programmed in the mid-1990s and there's no way to correct this issue.

                    Example...
                    Serial number = 01234
Serial number as shown in AFS = 1234

Since the serial number does not exactly match, SBSD will not approve it to be listed on the permit.

At least you can carry it in AZ and anywhere else.

How booked up are the renewal classes? I have not received a renewal notice since mine expires in January, but obviously I need to renew next month. Also replacing 2 guns listed (after I confirm that the serial number on my Kahr does not start with a zero )

October may be a little early.
There is a class Nov 7th at HQ.
I have the list for the year if you need more dates looked up later.

No issues getting time off work, so I can take whatever they have available.

October 15 would be 90 days right?

Yes, 90 days. I had forgotten they are now saying 90 days, it was 60 days.
For October you have the 10th at HQ 5:30-9:30 PM or if you can go to Rancho October 24th 1-5 PM.
Call Sarah Brock would be my suggestion.

Had my range date today. I have to give a lot of credit and props to the SBSD and Corperal Mike Mason in particular. They were professionals; they made the range session and classroom intstuction informative, eye opening with real life examples, humorous, exciting, interactive and an overall a great experience.

Thank you, thank you! So much respective and gratitude to the men and women of SBSD!
